Job description
Your Fabrication Work, Brought to Life What if the structures you welded became the body, limbs, head, neck, or tail of a large-scale animatronic creature? We’re looking for an experienced Boilermaker, Welder, or Mechanical Fabricator to join our Engineering Fabrication team in Port Melbourne.
You’ll produce complex, precision weldments that need to move accurately, perform reliably, and withstand the demands of live attractions and entertainment environments around the world. This is hands-on fabrication from detailed engineering drawings through to completed assemblies. The work is varied, technically demanding, and built around quality rather than repetitive production.
Why This Work Is Different The weldments you produce form the mechanical structure at the centre of our creatures. Their accuracy directly affects how each creature moves, how safely and reliably it performs, and how long it remains operational. You’ll work closely with engineers, assemblers, and experienced fabricators to solve practical build challenges and create structures with real, visible outcomes. You could be the one if you…
- Hold a trade qualification, or equivalent certification, in mechanical fabrication, welding or similar.
- Bring strong hands-on steel fabrication experience, ideally involving large structures or machinery.
- Can read engineering drawings and welding symbols confidently and work consistently to tight tolerances.
- Can complete a practical weld test as part of the recruitment process.
- Are willing to train towards and pass a 6GR weld qualification after commencing in the role.
- Take a quality-first approach to fabrication, welding, fit-up, and finished work.
- Enjoy detailed, technically challenging work where precision matters.
Nice to Have
- Experience working to recognised welding standards such as AWS, ISO, AS/NZS 1554, or equivalent.
- Experience designing and using jigs, fixtures, and weld-mapping techniques.
- Current Dogging, Rigging, forklift, or EWP licences, or a willingness to obtain them if required.
What You’ll Do
- Produce high-precision weldments from tubular members, sheet and plate, and machined components.
- Weld using GMAW, GMAW-S, and GTAW processes to meet documented quality requirements.
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings, welding symbols, and weld details.
- Build and use jigs and fixtures to control distortion and maintain fabrication accuracy.
- Work to documented welding procedures and complete the required quality records for each weldment.
- Check that materials and components are correct and traceable before beginning fabrication.
- Assemble mechanical components alongside fabrication work and support accurate fit-up where required.
- Collaborate with engineers, assemblers, and other fabricators to work through practical build challenges.
- Support inspection activities and respond to feedback to improve quality and repeatability.
- Assist with final assembly when required, handling completed parts carefully and accurately.
How We Work Together Our fabrication team works closely with engineers, assemblers, and other workshop specialists to resolve problems as builds take shape. We value practical problem-solving, careful communication, and people who take pride in getting the details right. You’ll be supported to learn Creature Technologies' fabrication and quality requirements, including the in-house welding qualifications needed for particular work.
