Utilities Engineer in Rensselaer, NY

The Utilities Engineer is directly responsible for the operation and optimization of the plant’s utility systems.

Responsibilities
- Directs and coordinates plant activities and programs for maintaining utilities impacting environmental compliance for the site.
- Monitors equipment (RTO, TO, Scrubbers, boilers, WWTP system components etc.) for the safe and efficient operation supporting the site. Diagnosis problems and makes recommendations to the Environmental Engineer.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DEC and DOH agencies as they relate to the requirements of site permits, including oil spills, chemical spills, air quality and water contamination.
- Manage and maintain refrigeration systems, including maintaining records and regulatory reporting.
- Support energy conservation initiatives including commitment to ESG for energy assessments and reduction.
- Works with other groups within the plant on projects including plant expansion, process improvements, and capital improvements.
- Project management of plant utility projects during annual shutdowns.
- Functions independently as well as cross-dept. collaboratively.
- Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services.
- Participate in self-development activities.
- Exhibit safety awareness, safe work practices and Emergency Response Team (ERT) participation.
- Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business or as requested by supervisor or management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or relevant field and 3 years related work experience, OR
- Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or relevant field and 1 year of related work experience
Preferred
- Project management experience a plus
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in a manufacturing plant
Other Qualifications
- Must pass a background check
- Must pass a drug screen
- May be required to pass Occupational Health Screening
Pay Range: $72,300-$87,800/yr.
Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
