Job Description
Manages support staff and assists with supervision of Pretrial Officers, training, evaluations, audits, court updates, and coordination between treatment providers and team members. Management Scope: Supervises non-exempt staff members. Serves approximately 3,000 defendants
Responsibilities
Oversees support staff. Assists with planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling all activities to ensure effective quality service delivery, supervision and direction and that the health, safety and equipment needs of staff and defendants are met. Onboards and develops training courses for professional development of staff. Assists with the assignment of cases by maintaining an equitable caseload/workload balance, determining, scheduling and prioritizing assignments and conducting administrative hearings to ensure that high standards of rehabilitative services are provided; audits case files and provides training based on findings. Assists with implementing and evaluating strategic plans, policies and procedures to accomplish goals. Participates in staff and management meetings, task forces and committees to assist with information sharing, planning and problem solving. Participates in in-service training sessions. Develops, collects, maintains and interprets statistical data and other information systems to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of personnel and other available resources. Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e., processing intake assessments, and supervision of pretrial defendants. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience and Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Law, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Business Management, Public Administration, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Education, or in a job-related field of study. Three (3) years of professional work-related experience. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must possess thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of correctional casework, management and experience in the specialized area of assignment preferred. Requires thorough knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local rules, regulations and standards. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. The employee will also be subject to shift changes. • “Position requires working with defendants who may have committed dangerous/ aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.” • An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department. • Working in a 24-hour facility may make the employee subject to working mandatory overtime or remaining on duty and working all, or a part of, an additional shift (“double shift”). Physical/Environmental Requirements: Standard office environment. Jail. Must be able to visit various off-site locations. Must be physically able to perform natural defense response techniques.
