Job description

  • Location: Lille
  • Timing: ASAP

Context & project

Decathlon’s mission is to bring people together through sport and make wellbeing accessible for all. To make this mission a reality, Decathlon relies on In-Store teammates who embody the human touchpoint between our brand and our customers, and are key enablers of Store business. This is exactly where your mission comes in: unlocking a deep understanding of our in-store teammates to identify key pain points and turn them into clear business opportunities. Working in a dynamic omnichannel context, you will partner closely with product teams to guide the creation of simple, efficient, and field-adapted experiences—enabling our teammates to be as impactful as possible with our customers while bridging the gap between user needs, business goals, and technological opportunities.

Digital plays a pivotal role in the quality of the connection built during moments shared between customers and teammates. How? By ensuring every In-Store Decathlonian works in an efficient and adapted environment that seamlessly supports their daily tasks.

Your mission

In this context, we’re looking for a UX Researcher to dive into In-Store behaviors and elevate the Personal Buying Experience. Your mission will be to uncover the needs and friction points of our teammates on the floor, identify and build strong opportunities, while supporting our product team in their craft.

As a User Researcher, you will enrich our User Knowledge and drive the tangible impact of your findings on our in-store tools. You will:

  • Decode the field: Conduct in-store observations to map the real-world practices, workflows, and pain points of our store teammates.
  • Guide decision-making: Turn qualitative and quantitative data into actionable strategic insights to shape the product roadmap.
  • Promote a User-first culture: Feed our team's knowledge repository to align Designers, Product Managers, and Tech leads with the reality on the shop floor.

Role & responsibilities

As a Senior Product Designer / Researcher, you will act as a key partner with cross-functional product teams to

  • influence and enlighten decisions, whether long-term strategy, quarterly roadmaps or day-to-day tactics
  • build a shared understanding / empathy of the current customer experiences
  • ensure that we identify and tackle the most relevant opportunities
  • build long-term impact (outcomes) rather than features (outputs)
  • build and feed a long term user and customer knowledge strategy

Craft / Core skills

  • Strategy & Framing - Support product decisions (product outcomes, opportunities, solutions) through research insights and Opportunity Solution Trees (OSTs) / Identify and prioritize research plans with stakeholders
  • Research / Problem Discovery - Uncover and refine opportunities through qualitative and/or quantitative research / Map end-to-end journeys & opportunity spaces / Make your findings easily accessible and understandable to your stakeholders (readouts, documentation, etc.) / Support teams to setup continuous discovery “habits” (eg. regular & holistic insights gathering, insights library, etc.)
  • Solution Discovery & Testing - Support designers & product trios by actively contributing to design critiques & test sessions / Provide research methodology guidance when needed
  • Inclusivity & Ethics - Craft research methodologies & outputs that fully include the diversity of our users and tackle possible biases

Behaviors / Soft skills

  • Influence - Work closely and proactively with all expertises (product, business, engineering, countries, etc.) to influence strategies, prioritization and discovery/delivery roadmaps
  • Cross-functional collaboration (functional management) - Involve your product teams and stakeholders throughout your research/design process, leveraging the right methods and/or storytelling, creating a safe environment for feedbacks
  • Design collaboration - Contribute to elevate the research practices, run and/or participate to collaborative design sessions with your peers across multiple teams (New Business Models, eCommerce, InStore, …)
  • Growth mindset - Proactively identify and build on your strengths and improvement areas, turn failures into positive learning lessons (for you and for others)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
