About this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Business Process Specialist located in Midland, MI or Houston, TX.
This role is better described as a Data Governance Analyst to support the execution and operationalization of enterprise data governance practices. This role is responsible for maintaining governance artifacts, improving data quality, documenting metadata, supporting stewardship activities, and ensuring governance standards are consistently applied across business domains.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with attention to detail and enjoys working with business and technical teams to improve the quality, consistency, and usability of enterprise data assets.
Responsibilities – Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role
- Execute established data governance processes, policies, standards, and controls
- Support enterprise governance initiatives through the completion of governance activities and deliverables
- Follow and apply governance methodologies, templates, and best practices
- Create, maintain, and update business metadata, technical metadata, business glossary entries, and data catalog content
- Document business definitions, data ownership information, stewardship assignments, and data lineage
- Maintain governance repositories, standards documentation, and supporting materials
- Perform data quality assessments and validation activities
- Monitor data quality metrics, analyze results, and identify data issues
- Support root-cause analysis and remediation efforts for data quality challenges
- Execute testing and validation activities related to governed data assets
- Partner with Data Governance Managers and subject matter experts to capture business knowledge and requirements.
- Prepare governance documentation and recommendations for review and approval
- Populate and maintain enterprise data catalogs and governance platforms
- Support data classification, critical data element identification, and ownership alignment activities
- Maintain documentation and metadata associated with governed data assets
- Support governance communications, training materials, and awareness activities
- Contribute to the standardization and continuous improvement of governance practices and deliverables
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant or 5 years of experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or a related field
- Foundational understanding of governance concepts, metadata, and data quality management
- Experience working with business and technical stakeholders to support data-related efforts
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with data tools such as data catalogs, data quality platforms, or reporting tools
- Exposure to regulatory data requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Experience working in agile or project-based environments
- Basic knowledge of SQL, data modeling, or data analysis techniques

- Business Requirements: Ability to gather, document, and translate business data needs, ownership requirements, and governance expectations into structured governance deliverables and standards.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze data quality issues, identify root causes, evaluate governance gaps, and develop effective solutions to improve data accuracy and consistency.
- Data Compilation: Skill in collecting, organizing, maintaining, and documenting metadata, business glossary terms, data lineage, ownership information, and governance records across enterprise data assets.
- Collaborative Spirit: Ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders, data stewards, subject matter experts, and technical teams to support governance initiatives and data management objectives.
- Written Communication: Ability to create clear, accurate, and comprehensive governance documentation, procedures, metadata definitions, training materials, and recommendations for both business and technical audiences.
