About You and this Role
As an Operations Performance Engineer supporting Dow's PGA Alkoxylation Glycol Reactors in Freeport, Texas, you will play a critical role in driving safe, reliable, and profitable manufacturing operations. This highly impactful role focuses on operational performance, asset optimization, and value creation. You will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technology resources to solve complex manufacturing challenges, improve business results, and translate improvement opportunities into sustainable implementation.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical fundamentals with hands-on problem solving, thrives in a highly collaborative environment, and is passionate about driving improvements from identification through implementation.
Responsibilities
- Own and improve asset performance by optimizing reliability, production throughput, product quality, raw material efficiency, and manufacturing costs.
- Drive achievement of production targets and business objectives through operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate operational decisions for site and business integration impacts and recommend actions that optimize overall system performance.
- Serve as a key technical resource by providing troubleshooting, coaching, and support during routine operations, operational upsets, abnormal situations, and emergency events.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions to improve operating discipline and performance.
- Leverage process expertise, operating data, and subject matter expert networks to resolve complex plant issues and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Monitor operational, process, and business performance metrics to identify, prioritize, and implement value-creating improvement opportunities.
- Lead capital and expense improvement projects, including value case development, technical leadership, and successful implementation of solutions.
- Identify and close performance and reliability gaps, eliminate constraints, and partner with Maintenance and Reliability teams to improve asset availability and long-term asset performance.
- Ensure compliance with operating permits, environmental requirements, and process safety systems while maintaining a strong field presence and reinforcing safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering (chemical or mechanical engineering discipline is highly preferred).
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (e.g. manufacturing, operations, or engineering experience in an industrial environment).
- Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment (including harnesses with a total maximum weight capacity of 300lbs and respirator/SCBA use). Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Production Engineer, Process Engineer, Improvement Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer.
- Knowledge of process safety principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with root cause investigations, process optimizations, and reliability improvements.
