Employer: Easpring Finland New Materials Oy

Location: Kotka, Finland

About Easpring Finland

Easpring Finland is developing a battery materials plant in Kotka to meet the growing demand for battery materials in Europe. The plant will produce cathode active materials required for electric vehicle batteries.

We are looking for a Procurement Engineer to manage local procurement activities and take overall responsibility for electricity procurement and energy management, supported by external professional service providers.

Position Summary

As Procurement Engineer, you will manage local procurement of goods and services and serve as the internal owner of Easpring Finland’s electricity procurement and energy management activities. You will coordinate electricity price risk management and hedging, physical electricity procurement, consumption forecasting and efficiency initiatives, working closely with production, maintenance, sales, finance and external energy specialists.

You will be accountable for coordinating energy management activities and translating specialist advice into actionable proposals, approved instructions, monitoring and follow-up. External strategic partners, currently including Fortum, will provide market insights, technical expertise and agreed services, while decisions and commitments remain subject to the Company’s authorization and approval processes.

This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on procurement with the management of a major cost and operational risk area during the plant’s ramp-up and production expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage local procurement of materials, equipment, spare parts and services, including sourcing, requests for quotation, supplier evaluation, negotiations, purchase orders, contracts and delivery follow-up.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local suppliers and support cost, quality, delivery, compliance and procurement process improvements.
  • Take overall responsibility for the Company’s electricity procurement and energy management activities, coordinating internal stakeholders and external professional service providers to ensure effective implementation and performance.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and periodic review of electricity procurement, price risk management and hedging policies and guidelines, in cooperation with external experts and relevant internal functions.
  • Manage commercial cooperation and contract discussions with the electricity strategic partner; prepare hedging proposals and coordinate necessary internal review and approvals before issuing authorized instructions.
  • Work with external specialists to assess Nordic electricity market developments and develop electricity price and cost outlooks for management and sales, supporting business planning and customer pricing.
  • Coordinate the procurement of Guarantees of Origin (GoO), including type and volume requirements received from sales, and ensure appropriate internal approvals and partner instructions.
  • Coordinate physical day-ahead and intraday electricity procurement with the strategic partner and operations team, based on plant production plans and expected electricity demand.
  • Monitor actual electricity consumption against forecasts and day-ahead orders, analyze deviations and balance power exposure, and coordinate corrective measures with operations and the service provider.
  • Develop electricity demand forecasts and consumption monitoring and reporting in cooperation with production, maintenance, sales and relevant technical teams.
  • Coordinate energy efficiency opportunities with production and maintenance teams, supporting analysis and implementation while operational teams retain responsibility for plant operations.
  • Establish clear communication routines for planned and unplanned production changes that may affect power consumption and short-term electricity procurement.
  • Manage external energy service providers, assess their professional recommendations, coordinate internal decisions and approved actions, monitor service performance and ensure timely escalation of significant energy-related risks.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement performance, electricity cost forecasts, hedging status, consumption deviations and energy management risks; maintain appropriate records and comply with Company purchasing, financial authorization and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Energy or a related field.
  • Practical experience in procurement, sourcing or supplier management, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing or energy-intensive environment.
  • Good understanding of procurement processes, supplier contracts, commercial negotiations and cost management.
  • Understanding of electricity procurement, the Nordic electricity market and energy price risk concepts, or a demonstrated ability to develop these competences with specialist support.
  • Ability to coordinate external energy experts and evaluate professional advice, with sound judgment on when to seek internal approvals or escalate risks.
  • Understanding of industrial electricity consumption, production planning and energy monitoring is an advantage.
  • Analytical skills and ability to work with forecasts, consumption data, costs and management reports.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional proficiency in English; Finnish language skills are a strong advantage for local sourcing and supplier cooperation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and cooperate across commercial and operational functions in a fast-changing environment.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to join a fast-growing battery materials company
  • A key role combining local procurement with responsibility for a strategically important energy management area
  • Opportunity to work with experienced external energy professionals and cross-functional teams
  • International working environment
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
