  System Administrator   Designated office: Eastlink 6080 Young Street Halifax, NS   This position is: On-site - working all 5 days per week in the Office    Eastlink is a family owned, entrepreneurial and innovative company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  We take great pride in being a leader in delivering creative competitive, customer focused telecommunications solutions, and connecting our customers to the things and people that matter most.  Serving a customer base across seven provinces, our advanced solutions include Internet, Mobile, TV, Telephone, Security and Automation, Data Communications, and exclusive locally produced programming on Eastlink Community TV.   We embrace diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility throughout all levels of the organization and encourage members of equity groups to self-identify during the application process.   The System Administrator will be responsible for a wide variety of activities relating to the management of IT systems and products/applications which help deliver Eastlink’s solutions.   As the ideal candidate, you are an analytical, creative thinker who enjoys taking initiative, exercises an entrepreneurial approach to their work, and are able to effectively respond to changing organizational priorities within a rapidly evolving environment. Highly customer focused, you are a strong communicator, comfortable with cross-departmental interaction in addition to being an autonomous, ambitions contributor, eager to learn and adapt to new, changing technologies     Key responsibilities:  

Analyze, evaluate, co-ordinate, implement, manage and support the day-to-day maintenance of a diverse and highly available Linux environments providing Eastlink internal and external services Deploying new Linux infrastructure to support business initiatives Work with network and hardware teams to troubleshoot, provide recommendations, and proactively monitor systems Strong security focus applying best practices, patching, and monitoring security vulnerabilities Ensure system reliability with a strong focus on security by applying best practices in regard to patching, backups, security, anti-virus, and monitoring security vulnerabilities System hardening and vulnerability testing Collaborate with team members in benchmarking, research, planning, design, and implementation of new technologies and improvement of existing infrastructure Responsible for documenting procedures, problems and their resolutions Conduct research into systems related issues and products

  Qualifications:  

Post-secondary education focused on Computer Science, Data Communications/Networking, Information Technology or a related field 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated experience and understanding of Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) Experience working with the following technologies is preferred:

System Monitoring (Patching and Vulnerabilities) System Programming, Scripting, and Automation Common Open-Source tools and applications VMware vSphere and SAN technology Managing system backups and restores

Cloud experience is considered an asset Experience working in a secure environment considered and asset Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and AWX, Landscape or RHEL Satellite are considered an asset Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Docker and Kubernetes are considered an asset Experience with vulnerability and troubleshooting tools such as Rapid7, nmap, tcpdump, and wireshark are considered and asset Strong knowledge of networking, TCP/IP, IP addressing, core network services DNS/DHCP and network troubleshooting Familiar with scripting in shell, Perl, or Python Windows experience considered an asset Understanding of Agile methodology would be an asset Strong written and verbal communication skills
