Company Description

Egis is a global consulting, engineering and operations group delivering intelligent, sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions across more than 70 countries. With over 25,500 employees, we support clients in addressing the climate emergency and enhancing environmental performance. In the UK, we are actively involved in nationally significant programmes across the transmission and distribution (T&D), energy, water and transportation sectors, where environmental excellence and robust consenting strategies are central to project success.

Job Description

Principal – EIA & Consents

Location: London, Manchester or Bristol | Hybrid Working

Other Egis office locations may be considered, subject to business requirements and local office availability.

Help shape the infrastructure of tomorrow

At Egis, we’re growing our Environment team and looking for an experienced Principal – EIA & Consents to help us deliver some of the UK’s most exciting and complex infrastructure projects.

From energy and water to transportation and transmission & distribution (T&D), you’ll play a key role in helping clients navigate environmental assessment, planning and consenting challenges — ensuring projects are designed and delivered responsibly, sustainably and successfully.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of major infrastructure programmes, collaborating with experts across multiple disciplines and engaging with clients, regulators, stakeholders and communities. You’ll bring your technical expertise, commercial awareness and understanding of the consenting landscape to projects where your advice can make a real difference.

Your role

As a Principal, you’ll contribute to the successful delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), environmental planning and consenting strategies across major infrastructure programmes.

You’ll help teams understand environmental risks and opportunities, develop effective mitigation strategies and communicate complex environmental issues clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of key workstreams while also helping to develop our people, capabilities and growing environmental business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and contribute to EIAs, including screening, scoping and Environmental Statement chapter preparation across T&D, energy, water and transportation projects.
  • Undertake environmental baseline studies, constraints analysis and impact assessments, turning technical information into clear, actionable advice.
  • Coordinate specialist environmental inputs, including air quality, noise, biodiversity, landscape, water environment and climate, ensuring a coherent and robust assessment.
  • Support and contribute to DCO, TCPA and sector-specific planning and consenting submissions for linear and major infrastructure schemes.
  • Develop and implement environmental mitigation strategies, helping project teams identify, manage and reduce environmental risks.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, local planning authorities, regulators, statutory consultees and community stakeholders.
  • Contribute to consultations, technical workshops, stakeholder engagement and project reporting.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who combines strong environmental knowledge with curiosity, collaboration and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to major infrastructure projects.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A good understanding of EIA Regulations, environmental legislation and planning frameworks, with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world projects.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the confidence to interpret data, identify environmental constraints and contribute to robust technical assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex environmental matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute effectively across multiple projects.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to work proactively within multidisciplinary teams, building positive relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
  • An interest in, or experience of, the environmental challenges and opportunities associated with T&D, energy, water or transportation infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in environmental science, environmental planning, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience supporting or delivering EIAs, environmental planning or consenting projects, ideally within an environmental consultancy, engineering consultancy or regulated industry.
  • A working knowledge of UK planning policy, environmental legislation and the consenting process.
  • Progress towards, or an interest in achieving, professional membership with IEMA, CIEEM, CIWEM or RTPI is encouraged.

Why join Egis?

You’ll be joining a growing and collaborative Environment team where you can develop your expertise, work on nationally significant infrastructure projects and help shape more sustainable outcomes.

We value people who bring fresh thinking, share knowledge and want to make a difference. Whether you’re looking to broaden your sector experience, take on greater responsibility or help develop the next generation of environmental professionals, Egis offers the opportunity to build a career with real impact.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
