Job Description

Bring your curiosity and determination to make a positive impact on the future of transportation and major events.

At GHD, we don't just believe in the power of commitment, we live and breathe it every day.

As part of our continued growth in the United States, we are seeking a Managing Consultant - Crowd & Transport Modelling to establish and grow our Los Angeles-based capability while supporting one of the most exciting mobility and major-event programs in North America, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28).

This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong, client-focused consultant who enjoys solving complex movement, transportation, and operational planning challenges. You will work alongside transportation planners, data analysts, urban designers, engineers, and major-event specialists to help clients design and operate safe, efficient, and world-class venues and transport systems.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Technical Leadership

  • Lead crowd movement, pedestrian flow, passenger flow, and transport modelling studies.
  • Develop and oversee static and dynamic simulation models for major venues, transit systems, public spaces, and urban environments.
  • Provide technical direction on modelling methodologies, assumptions, analysis, and reporting.
  • Translate complex technical findings into practical recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain technical quality and foster innovation in modelling approaches and analytical tools.

Project Delivery

  • Manage multidisciplinary projects from initiation through completion.
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate with transportation, planning, engineering, architecture, and operations teams across North America.
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients, project partners, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support project commercial performance and client satisfaction objectives.

Major Events and Transportation Advisory

  • Support planning and operational readiness initiatives associated with major events, venues, and transportation systems.
  • Conduct ingress, egress, queue management, emergency evacuation, passenger flow, and transport interface assessments.
  • Support risk-based operational planning and scenario testing through advanced simulation and analytics.
  • Collaborate with venue operators, transit agencies, event organizers, public-sector clients, and security stakeholders.

Business Development and Client Relationship Management

  • Build and strengthen relationships with transportation agencies, venue owners, event organizers, and public-sector clients throughout Southern California.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities within transportation, major events, transit, aviation, and urban mobility markets.
  • Support proposal development, interviews, client presentations, and strategic pursuits.
  • Contribute to the growth of GHD's advisory and modelling capabilities across the Americas.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop analysts and consultants.
  • Support recruitment and capability growth in the Los Angeles market.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on technical excellence and innovation.

What you will bring to the team:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Geography, Urban Planning, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in crowd modelling, pedestrian simulation, transportation planning, passenger flow analysis, operational planning, or a related consulting field.
  • Experience leading complex technical projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work directly with clients and develop trusted-advisor relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting major events, stadiums, arenas, airports, transit systems, rail stations, or large public venues.
  • Experience with simulation and modelling platforms such as Legion, MassMotion, Pathfinder, Viswalk, AnyLogic, or similar.
  • Familiarity with GIS, Python, SQL, Power BI, or data visualization tools.
  • Experience managing client relationships and contributing to business development activities.
  • Existing transportation, venue, or major-event industry connections within California or the broader western United States.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
