Job Description

If you are a seasoned software engineering leader looking to shape the future of industrial automation, Emerson has an exceptional opportunity for you! Based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, you will help advance the industry-leading Rosemount® brand—trusted worldwide for innovation, accuracy, and reliability.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the software strategy and development for the next generation of Rosemount Magnetic and Vortex Flowmeters. You will direct major software development initiatives through global engineering teams driving innovation, technical excellence, and secure-by-design practices to deliver industry-leading measurement solutions advancing performance, connectivity, cybersecurity, and reliability.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Provide technical and organizational leadership to develop complex embedded software products and systems, invent new techniques and advance the state of the art in areas with substantial technical risk
  • Direct domestic and global teams to define software architecture and coding techniques for next-generation Rosemount magnetic flowmeter and vortex meter platforms, including sensor processing, communications, diagnostics, functional safety (IEC 61508 / SIL), and security (IEC 62443) considerations
  • Prepare detailed multi-year plans for complex programs, establish technical program goals, define cost/schedule requirements, and recommend and initiate innovative projects supporting the product-line strategy
  • Interact frequently with customers, vendors, and supporting cross-functional groups to coordinate technical and administrative matters
  • Prepare technical proposals and represent Emerson to standards bodies
  • Administer technical policies and procedures, assure accuracy and timeliness of completed software documentation packages, approve or write requirements and specifications
  • Provide technical consultation throughout the company within areas of expertise; coach and develop the Rosemount Flow software team
  • Champion modern engineering practices — requirements management, CI/CD, secure development lifecycle (SDL), and appropriate use of AI-assisted development tools — in partnership with the DevSecOps and New Product Development excellence

Who You Are:

You create and implement plans to efficiently allocate resources. You adapt quickly to changing conditions. You apply knowledge of internal structures, processes, and culture to resourcing efforts. You communicate the vision with a sense of purpose about the future. You establish common objectives and a shared mindset. You anticipate future product and technology trends, translate them into actionable multi-year technical roadmaps, and lead through influence across engineering, product management, and operations. You communicate complex technical concepts clearly to leadership, customers, and standards committees alike.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science from an engineering school; ABET-accredited engineering degree preferred
  • Ten (10) years of related software engineering experience, with a demonstrated track record of leading complex product developments from concept through release
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience in an industrial or technology organization
  • Familiarity with coding standards (MISRA), version control, defect tracking, and modern requirements management tooling (Jama, DOORS, Azure DevOps)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Up to 10% travel required (domestic and international)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • SAFe SPC or RTE certification or rollout experience
  • Prior experience with flow measurement, process instrumentation, or other industrial sensor products
  • Experience mentoring and developing senior engineering talent across a global team
  • Experience with embedded product development
  • Knowledge of industrial digital communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP)
  • Experience with functional safety (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511, SIL 2/3)
  • Experience with secure development lifecycle practices (IEC 62443)
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts with a focus on CI/CD and process automation

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
