We believe exceptional companies are built by exceptional teams, and we’re intentional about it. That means hiring great people, setting them up for success from day one, and giving them real reasons to grow their careers here. We invest in development that goes beyond promotions, and we foster the trust and relationships that help people do their best work together.

What’s the role?

The UX AI Enablement (UXAI) team is part of the User Experience Platform (UXP) group. We build the tools, workflows, and quality standards that help Etsy’s product teams use AI across product development. We work closely with Design, Product, Research, Engineering, and Design Systems to make it faster to go from an idea to a high-fidelity prototype that’s aligned with the Design System, and then move that prototype toward validation and production.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of four engineers building an internal Mac app that Etsy designers, product managers, and engineers use to create and edit interactive prototypes in our Design System. Users start from an existing Etsy experience and change it by describing what they want to an AI assistant, with no coding required. At Etsy, engineering managers have a limited role in the hands-on process of building software, but a very large role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.

This is a full time role reporting to the Director of Engineering, UX Platform.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

  • We build an AI-assisted prototyping tool, a native Mac app, that helps teams explore and test web and iOS experiences faster and with more confidence. Android is coming soon.
  • We sit in the User Experience Platform group and partner daily with Design, Product, Research, Engineering, and Design Systems.
  • We work in the product model: teams own outcomes rather than a fixed feature list, and we keep testing ideas with users through continuous discovery and prototyping. We value people who can shape direction as we learn from users and prototypes.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Lead your team as they build and maintain our AI-assisted prototyping tool and bring it to Android, helping designers, product managers, and engineers prototype faster and stay aligned with our design systems. At Etsy, engineering managers have a limited role in the hands-on process of building software, but a very large role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.
  • Serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on your team, giving regular feedback and investing in their career growth.
  • Own the team’s roadmap with product, design, and research, prioritizing against outcomes such as adoption across Etsy teams. Sequence the staged plans your engineers bring you and balance them against the team’s capacity.
  • Partner with your product manager on adoption of the tool across Etsy: help set adoption goals, work with Design Systems and product teams on rollout, and make room for your team to bring user feedback back to the roadmap.
  • Set the quality bar for the tool with your team, including how we measure the quality of its AI output.
  • Participate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring, and onboarding, and foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and thoughtful delivery.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy’s discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive

  • 1+ years of experience directly managing engineers who ship user-facing software, including providing leadership, mentorship, feedback, and investing in their career growth.
  • A track record of shipping user-facing software to customers, with hands-on depth in native app development (preferred) or web front-end development, enough to guide design and make engineering tradeoffs based on problem and context.
  • You have experience building products that use generative AI and understand good systems design.
  • You can make engineering tradeoffs based on problem and context.
  • You can collaborate effectively with both junior and senior team members.

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
