The posting

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to help our customers develop secure, connected products. Working in a consulting role, either as part of a customer team or in an Etteplan-managed project, you build embedded software across the full stack from low-level platform components to application logic.

The ideal candidate sees the bigger picture. Beyond writing high-quality code, you understand architectures, technical trade-offs and the regulatory requirements that increasingly shape modern embedded development.

Most of your work is in C and C++ and you apply Rust where it brings clear value. We do not expect deep Rust expertise. Curiosity and willingness to learn are enough.

Cybersecurity regulations, including the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), IEC 62443 and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), increasingly influence architecture, testing and documentation. You help our customers meet these requirements through sound engineering practices and thoughtful technical decisions.

AI-assisted and agentic development tools are part of our daily workflow. We expect you to use them with good judgment: understanding when generated code can be trusted, when it requires verification and applying the same review discipline as to any other contribution, especially in regulated environments.

Your main responsibilities

·Define software and system architecture for embedded Linux, C and C++ products treating security and safety as design constraints from the start

·Lead or contribute to threat modelling and design reviews that cover connectivity, update mechanisms and attack surface

·Write and review embedded software in modern C++ (C++17 and newer) and C for resource-constrained, real-time and connected environments and apply Rust where memory safety brings clear value

·Work across the full software stack bootloader, kernel, middleware and application layers, including board bring-up and driver-level debugging

·Build and maintain the test strategy across unit, integration, system and hardware-in-the-loop levels with CI/CD pipelines that produce traceable evidence as a normal part of delivery: test records, static and dynamic analysis results and, where required, SBOMs

·Help customers achieve compliance with CRA, IEC 62443 and RED in their products working together with their quality and regulatory specialists

·Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly and effectively, applying appropriate verification and review practices, particularly in regulated environments

·Act as the technical voice in customer discussions with product, safety and regulatory stakeholders, and mentor other developers

Your skills and experience

·Several years of experience in embedded software development in a senior or lead role with demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership

·Hands-on experience with embedded Linux: kernel configuration, board support packages, Yocto or Buildroot and driver-level debugging. Experience with real-time constraints (PREEMPT_RT or an RTOS) is an advantage.

·Strong command of C and/or modern C++ in embedded systems, including memory and resource safety, RAII and concurrency in constrained environments

·Experience with networking and connected products, including TCP/IP, TLS and IoTor industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, OPC UA, Modbus, BLE, Wi-Fi or cellular

·Experience designing architectures and making trade-offs between real-time constraints, resource limits and security controls and experience with threat modelling (for example STRIDE)

·Experience building test strategies across unit, integration and system levels, with static and dynamic analysis tooling

·Working knowledge of at least one of CRA, IEC 62443 or RED with an interest in developing deeper expertise

·A consultant's mindset: you work comfortably in customer teams, explain technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders and adapt quickly to new tools, industries and codebases

·Experience using modern development tooling, including AI-assisted development tools, with appropriate engineering judgment and verification practices

·Fluent in Finnish and English

We also value

·Hands-on experience with Rust in embedded or systems work, or a strong interest in learning it

·Direct experience preparing technical documentation or evidence for CRA conformity, IEC 62443 certification or RED assessment

What We Offer

·Exposure to diverse industries and cutting-edge embedded challenges.

·A strong multi-disciplinary engineering team

·Competitive compensation and benefits, with a flexible hybrid working model based in Finland.

At Etteplan we ensure that your compensation is fair and transparent. Your salary reflects your competencies and contributions, in line with our way of working. For this role, the typical monthly salary is 4500-6500€/month, depending on your background.

Please submit your application through our recruitment system by 13 November at the latest. For more information about the role please contact Department Manager Jyrki Hakala at [email protected].

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
