Naast dataproducten levert de afdeling advies over deze data aan gebruikers binnen en buiten RWS. Ook is de afdeling de aanjager van vernieuwing en ontwikkeling van data-inwinning, data-analyse, data-science en nieuwe algoritmes. Om toepassing van satellietdata in de werkprocessen van Rijkswaterstaat te versnellen is binnen DOA het Team Remote Sensing opgericht. Het team adviseert in het gebruik en ontwikkelt producten en dienstverlening op basis van satellietdata. Het doel van de opdracht, wat is de situatie die bereikt moet zijn/naar welke situatie streeft men? Het primaire doel is het operationeel houden van onze dataproductie van veranderingsdetectie op basis van (In)SAR satellietdata d.m.v. uitvragen en beoordelen van producten van marktpartijen. Het tweede doel is de huidige productie doorontwikkelen naar een robuust, schaalbaar, testbaar en reproduceerbaar product voor brede inzet bij Rijkswaterstaat. Wordt de inhoud van het werk en de werktijden bepaald door RWS Net als bij een reguliere werknemer van RWS. De coördinator van het team Remote Sensing fungeert als leidinggevende en toezichthouder van de in te huren persoon. De inhoudelijke dagelijkse aansturing ligt bij een van de inhoudelijke specialisten van het team.
