Als projectmanager gebiedsontwikkeling zit je vroeg aan tafel wanneer zulke richtinggevende keuzes ontstaan. Je onderzoekt scenario's, organiseert expertise en maakt duidelijk welke gevolgen iedere route heeft. Daarmee beïnvloed je niet alleen de projectplanning, maar ook de toekomstige kwaliteit van een gebied. Via koen werk je op detacheringsbasis bij verschillende gemeenten aan uiteenlopende ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen. Je brengt ervaring van eerdere projecten mee zonder bestaande oplossingen simpelweg te kopiëren. Iedere locatie heeft immers andere belangen, kansen en beperkingen. Werken als projectmanager bij de gemeente brengt je dicht bij bestuurlijke besluitvorming. Je adviseert over programma, haalbaarheid, samenwerking, planning en risico's en vertaalt complexe informatie naar concrete keuzepunten. Je stuurt onderzoeken en projectteams aan en zorgt dat besluiten op betrouwbare informatie rusten. Ook bespreek je met externe partijen welke bijdrage zij kunnen leveren en welke afspraken nodig zijn. De invloed van jouw werk wordt soms pas jaren later volledig zichtbaar. Dan staat er een wijk, is een verouderde locatie opnieuw onderdeel van de stad of heeft een gebied een nieuwe functie gekregen.
