JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Counsel will be a member of the Company's Legal Department, supporting the development, execution, and operation of international LNG and energy infrastructure projects.

Reporting to Senior Counsel, the role will involve drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial, project, and financing agreements; advising cross-functional business teams; supporting transaction execution and project development activities; and assisting with the management of existing contracts, claims, and disputes.

The successful candidate will ideally have trained and practised at a top-tier international law firm, with experience in LNG, energy, infrastructure, or project development. Prior in-house, client secondment, or project execution experience would be advantageous.

The role offers significant exposure to complex cross-border transactions, LNG commercial arrangements, and major infrastructure projects, with the opportunity to work closely with senior business stakeholders and take increasing ownership of matters as experience develops.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to the following activities:

· Assist with the drafting, review, and negotiation of project and commercial agreements, including LNG sale and purchase agreements, gas sale and transportation agreements, terminal use and regasification agreements, vessel charter and maritime agreements, EPC and construction contracts, guarantees, credit support documents, confidentiality agreements, term sheets, and ancillary project documentation.

· Support Commercial, Finance, Operations, Technical, and Project Development teams in identifying and managing legal and contractual risks.

· Assist with contract administration and implementation, including monitoring key obligations, milestones, deliverables, claims, and contractual risk.

· Prepare first-pass contract markups, comparison tables, issue lists, and contract summaries for review by senior counsel.

· Support legal due diligence exercises, transaction management, project approvals, and corporate governance processes.

· Coordinate with and assist in the management of external legal counsel and other advisors across relevant jurisdictions.

· Conduct legal research and prepare practical written advice, briefing notes, and presentations for internal stakeholders.

· Attend project meetings, negotiations, and stakeholder calls, preparing action trackers and follow-up items as required.

· Leverage AI and legal technology tools to support drafting, research, document review, and knowledge management, while exercising appropriate judgement and quality control over outputs.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Qualified lawyer in England and Wales, the United States (Texas or New York), or another recognised common-law jurisdiction.

· Approximately three to five years of post-qualification experience.

· Strong academic credentials and training at a top-tier international law firm.

· Experience in LNG/energy and project finance/project development.

· Experience drafting and negotiating complex project and finance contracts.

· LNG experience is strongly preferred, including exposure to LNG supply, regasification, terminal, or vessel-related arrangements.

· Prior in-house or secondment experience is preferred.

· Experience working on cross-border transactions or projects involving emerging markets would be beneficial.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

· Strong commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills.

· Sound legal judgement, with the ability to identify material risks and recommend practical, commercially focused solutions.

· Strong understanding of complex commercial transactions, project structures, and contractual interfaces.

· Ability to manage matters independently and take ownership of day-to-day legal support, while exercising appropriate judgement as to when escalation is required.

· Commercially minded, pragmatic, and comfortable working closely with business teams to facilitate commercial objectives while appropriately managing risk.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise, and actionable advice to internal stakeholders.

· Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, transactions, and competing priorities simultaneously.

· Practical understanding of how to leverage AI and other technology tools to improve efficiency, support drafting and research, and manage large volumes of information, while exercising appropriate professional judgement and critical review of outputs.

· Collaborative and comfortable working across different functions, jurisdictions, and time zones.

· Adaptable, proactive, and able to perform effectively in a fast-paced international environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
