The posting

About Us

The Financial Times is one of the world’s leading business news organisations, recognised internationally for its authority, integrity, and accuracy.

At the FT, curiosity thrives and ambitious thinking is rewarded. Here, you’re given the chance to reach millions, create work that matters and deliver impartial journalism in a polarised world.

In our warm, collaborative culture, you’ll connect with a diverse community of experts who support your growth, career aspirations and wellbeing.

The FT has a record paying readership of 1.6 million, more than 1.4 million of which are digital subscriptions. It is part of Nikkei Inc., which provides a broad range of information, news, and services for the global business community. We have offices in more than 35 countries, including London, New York, Hong Kong, Beijing, Manila, Sofia, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

Our Internships

We are looking for passionate and motivated students who are interested in pursuing a career in media to join our team! We expect our interns to be in the office a minimum of three days a week.

This program is a paid, ten week summer internship and offers the opportunity to connect and collaborate across the FT — in the US and globally. You’ll develop ideas that help drive our growth, present your work to US leadership, and gain valuable insights from across the business. Plus, you’ll be paired with a dedicated Buddy to provide mentorship and support throughout your experience.

This internship pays $22 per hour for 40 hours per week and runs from June 7, 2027 - Aug 13, 2027. Before applying, please ensure you will be available on these dates.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US.

Role Overview

The US reach and subscriber engagement team helps FT journalism reach a broader audience by producing original content for social media, directly engaging with our readers, managing engagement projects, monitoring analytics, and advising editors and reporters on best guidelines.

We are looking for candidates with a proven interest in social media, multimedia production, community engagement or digital journalism in general. Knowledge of business and economics is helpful, but not vital. You’ll have the opportunity to help conceive, shape and implement engagement strategies and experiments as well as take part in our daily audience engagement activities. This is a position within the newsroom. Candidates will be selected based on their interest in working in journalism and audience engagement.

Key responsibilities

  • Helping develop original ideas, experiments and engagement/social media strategies around planned news events, breaking news and special projects
  • Assisting the social media team in producing posts and keeping our channels up to date and on the news agenda
  • Producing original content specifically for social media to help promote FT journalism (this could include charts, social cards, videos, etc.)
  • Assisting with direct reader engagement through reader participation/community projects
  • Using data and insights to analyse audience behaviour and help inform our journalism
  • Providing SEO and social trends guidance from social and web listening tools
  • Producing panels to promote our stories on Google Showcase

Required skills/experience

  • Experience in journalism (a student publication counts), and good news judgement
  • Experience with design (Adobe Suite or similar) and video editing a plus
  • Good writing and editing skills
  • Good communication skills, organised, curious, and able to balance multiple projects at once
  • You are interested in making FT journalism accessible to a broader audience across various platforms

Please submit your application by October 26th by 5pm Eastern Time and be sure to include the following documents in your application

  • Resume
  • A cover letter explaining why you would be a good fit, and explaining your interest in joining our team

Any application submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

The use of AI

Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism. Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate, fair and insightful. For this reason, FT editorial staff do not use AI tools to write articles or create reader-facing content.

AI may be used in specific, pre-approved cases to assist with research, such as in data investigations. We expect internship applicants to refrain from using AI in writing tests or written materials submitted during the application process. All submissions must reflect your own knowledge, skills, and experiences.

Candidates may use AI to assist with research and interview preparation. However, the use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure fairness and transparency for all applicants.

Our commitment to a fair and inclusive workplace

At the FT, we are committed to creating a fair and inclusive workplace where everyone has equal opportunity to succeed. We welcome and value different perspectives and strive to ensure all employees are heard and supported. We believe people do their best work when they can be themselves and have the flexibility they need to balance their work and personal lives. We are an equal opportunity employer and comply with all applicable laws prohibiting discrimination.

Accessibility

We are a disability confident employer and Valuable 500 signatory.

Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments/personalisation as part of the application process or to enable you to attend an interview. If you wish to discuss your requirements or have any questions, email [email protected] and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
