Service Area: Funding & Resilience / Housing Support

Hours: 36 hours per week

Working Pattern: Initially onsite every day

There may be potential to work from home 2 days per week after the initial onsite period.

Job Overview

Bromley Council is seeking an experienced Funding and Operations Officer to support the assessment and processing of Discretionary Housing Payments.

The successful candidate must have direct experience assessing DHP applications and should be confident reviewing financial circumstances, housing costs and supporting information to make accurate and defensible decisions.

Experience using the Academy system to process Housing Benefit or Discretionary Housing Payments is strongly required for this role.

This role requires direct experience assessing Discretionary Housing Payments.

You must also have experience using Academy for Housing Benefit or DHP processing.

Candidates without DHP assessment experience and Academy system knowledge are unlikely to be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess applications for Discretionary Housing Payments
  • Process Housing Benefit and DHP cases using the Academy system
  • Review financial hardship, housing costs and supporting evidence
  • Maintain accurate records and case documentation
  • Provide clear advice and guidance to applicants regarding housing support
  • Ensure decisions are made in line with policies, procedures and relevant guidance
  • Work accurately to deadlines and manage a caseload effectively
  • Liaise with internal teams and applicants where required

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience assessing Discretionary Housing Payments
  • Experience using Academy for Housing Benefit or DHP processing
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to assess financial and housing circumstances
  • Good case recording and documentation skills
  • Ability to work in line with policies and procedures
  • Able to work onsite in Bromley initially

Desirable

  • Previous experience processing Housing Benefit
  • Ability to work from home 2 days per week after the initial onsite period

Additional Information

Interviews will be held onsite and will include questions and a written test.
