The posting

Role Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the Department Director and APAC tax leadership in the income tax provision, direct tax compliance, audit defense, and tax governance activities for a U.S.-based multinational corporation with operations in Australia, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Hongkong, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of APAC direct tax reporting and compliance within the BSC/shared-services model, establishing delivery priorities, review standards, work scope, governance routines, escalation protocols, and service expectations across the covered jurisdictions.
  • Own and review quarterly foreign tax packages for APAC legal entities for USGAAP ASC 740 reporting, including current tax calculations, deferred tax calculations, valuation allowance support, effective tax rate drivers, tax account reconciliations and documented management review.
  • Oversee the collection, validation, reconciliation, and governance of legal-entity financial data required for tax provision, statutory reporting, return-to-provision analysis, cash-tax forecasting, and compliance workpapers; coordinate effectively with APAC finance, statutory accounting, BSC, and regional tax stakeholders.
  • Lead the income tax payable and receivable reconciliations, including tax payments, refunds, audit settlements, withholding-tax payments, non-cash and intercompany adjustments, and tie-outs to BPC/general ledger accounts; ensure control exceptions are investigated, assigned and resolved.
  • Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual cash-tax forecasts, provisional tax and instalment tracking, and local tax payment calendars, ensuring assumptions, timing, and ownership and variances are clearly documented and escalated where appropriate.
  • Own the delivery governance for outsourced APAC corporate income tax compliance, including provider scope and performance management, data-request coordination, review of computations and returns, query resolution, risk management, filing status and completion of return-to-provision analysis.
  • Establish and maintain APAC compliance calendars, documentation standards, review checkpoints, and evidence-retention practices to support timely filing and payment, audit defense, statutory-account-to-tax-return alignment, and consistent execution across jurisdictions.
  • Lead quarterly uncertain tax position updates, and related FIN 48/ASC 740 considerations; ensure material matters are escalated to tax leadership.
  • Support on APAC tax queries and audits, including the collection of supporting schedules and documentation, reconciliation of statutory accounts to tax returns, compilation of withholding tax support.
  • Review legal entity deferred tax accounts, focusing on local statutory accounting differences, temporary and permanent differences, return-to-provision adjustments, valuation allowance indicators and the quality of documentation supporting deferred tax balances.
  • Monitor APAC direct tax law and compliance developments affecting corporate income tax, withholding tax, tax governance, R&D and other incentive regimes, and Pillar Two/QDMTT reporting; translate developments into practical actions, ownership and implementation plans.
  • Support APAC-specific tax projects, including withholding tax certificate and treaty support, R&D incentive support, and reconciliations among statutory accounts, tax returns, VAT/GST returns and management reporting where relevant.
  • Establish tax workpapers, review checklists, calendars, templates, process narratives and knowledge-transfer materials to strengthen quality, facilitate audit support and enable sustainable process centralization within the BSC model.
  • Provide people leadership for APAC income tax reporting and compliance seniors and analysts, as applicable, including performance management, coaching, workload allocation, prioritization across jurisdictional deadlines, stakeholder communication, and timely escalation of technical, control, or delivery risks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 10-12 years of relevant, progressive experience in ASC 740/IAS 12 tax accounting and corporate income tax compliance for a multinational corporation or public accounting firm, preferably in a shared service center environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax required; Master's degree in Accounting or Tax preferred (or local equivalents).
  • CPA, CA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740/IAS 12, US GAAP to statutory GAAP adjustments, statutory tax principles, and return-to-provision concepts.
  • Working knowledge of APAC corporate income tax compliance processes and common direct tax issues, including tax payments/instalments, tax losses, capital allowances/tax depreciation, withholding tax interactions, transfer pricing support, and audit documentation.
  • Ability to gather, organize, validate, and analyze data from multiple finance systems, ledgers, and local statutory reporting sources.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Team player who is organized, process-oriented, and able to manage multiple jurisdictional deadlines in a matrixed global organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to coordinate effectively with APAC finance teams, corporate tax, local advisors, and BSC stakeholders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, particularly advanced Excel; experience with ERP data extraction and reconciliation is preferred.

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Tax research skills using tools such as CCH, RIA, BNA, IBFD, local APAC tax authority guidance, or advisor-provided technical materials.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Workiva, SAP BPC, SAP, Oracle, or other regional/legacy ERP systems.
  • Experience operating in a BSC/shared services or regional hub model and supporting standardized tax workpapers and compliance calendars.
  • Exposure to APAC tax audits, withholding tax support, R&D incentives, tax governance, and Pillar Two/QDMTT principles.
  • Ability to speak or work across multiple APAC languages/cultures is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
