Machine Operator – Second Shift

Location: Winfield, West Virginia

Department: Wedge Wire

Primary Equipment: Wedge Wire Cylinder Machine

Shift: Second Shift

About the Winfield Wedge Wire Department:

The FLS Winfield Wedge Wire Department manufactures wedge wire screening and filtration products for customers worldwide, serving mining, mineral processing, and other industrial applications. Products include wedge wire cylinders, flat panels, curved sieves, trommel screens, and centrifuge baskets. These products support material separation, dewatering, sizing, and filtration. Our processes combine specialized equipment, precision resistance welding, fabrication, and inspection to meet customer specifications and FLS quality standards.

Position Summary:

FLS is seeking an experienced, mechanically inclined Machine Operator for second shift. The position primarily involves setting up, operating, and maintaining specialized wedge wire cylinder manufacturing equipment. The operator will work independently within the department, while other employees are present in the facility. Prior industrial machine operating experience is required; experience with wedge wire equipment is not. Hands-on training will be provided.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, operate, and monitor specialized wedge wire cylinder manufacturing equipment, including adjustment of electronic machine operating parameters, in accordance with production orders and technical drawings.
  • Select and prepare required tooling and materials; make machine adjustments to achieve specified product dimensions and quality.
  • Perform weld tests, monitor resistance welding performance, and inspect weld quality throughout production.
  • Use tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and product specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or process issues, perform routine equipment checks, and assist with basic preventive maintenance.
  • Manage assigned second-shift production activities independently and communicate progress, downtime, material shortages, and quality concerns to supervision.
  • Follow established procedures for handling nonconforming product and escalate issues when required.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Coordinate with other employees as needed while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Follow all FLS safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Accurately log production time and job-related information using a company-provided tablet; maintain complete production and inspection records.
  • Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic controls, review operating information, and enter production data.
  • Follow required safety practices, including personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout procedures when authorized, and prompt reporting of hazards.
  • Document product quality checks, identify nonconforming material, and communicate quality concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce scrap and downtime, improve equipment efficiency, and support continuous improvement.
  • Exercise sound judgment when working independently, including stopping work when safety or product quality may be compromised and notifying supervision.

What You Bring:

  • Previous experience operating industrial manufacturing machinery, including machine setups and adjustments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret production orders, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to use measuring tools, including tape measures and calipers.
  • Strong attention to quality, safe work practices, and production requirements.
  • Dependability, effective communication, and the ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
  • Willingness to learn specialized equipment and manufacturing processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Welding experience or familiarity with welding processes.
  • Industrial maintenance or mechanical repair experience.
  • Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled or semi-automated industrial manufacturing equipment, including machine setup, operating parameter adjustments, and troubleshooting.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
