POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Accounting and Reporting, the Senior Accountant, Treasury plays a key role in supporting the effective management of the Forbes Group of Companies' cash, banking, and treasury operations.

The Senior Accountant, Treasury is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely cash reporting, bank reconciliations, cash forecasting, treasury accounting, and banking activities across the organization's Canadian and US operations. This position works closely with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Tax, Operations, and Finance leadership to ensure appropriate liquidity, strong financial controls, and efficient treasury processes.

The successful candidate will be highly analytical and detail-oriented, with strong accounting fundamentals and demonstrated experience in treasury, cash management, banking, and financial reporting within a complex, multi-entity organization.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Monitor daily cash balances and cash positions across the organization's bank accounts and entities.
  • Prepare and maintain short-term cash flow forecasts to support liquidity planning and business requirements.
  • Coordinate cash transfers between bank accounts and legal entities as required.
  • Monitor cash requirements and identify potential funding or liquidity needs.
  • Support the management and administration of corporate banking relationships and banking services.
  • Assist with the administration of banking facilities, credit facilities, guarantees, letters of credit, and other treasury-related instruments, as applicable.
  • Monitor banking fees, interest charges, foreign exchange transactions, and other treasury-related costs.
  • Support foreign currency management and USD/CAD cash requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate controls and approvals are followed for all treasury and cash management activities.

Accounting & Reconciliations

  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations for multiple entities and bank accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve outstanding or unusual reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Prepare treasury-related journal entries and ensure transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile treasury-related general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to cash, banking, debt, interest, and other treasury accounts.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of treasury-related financial information and reporting.
  • Provide supporting documentation and information for internal and external audits.

Payments & Banking Operations

  • Support the processing and administration of EFTs, wires, electronic payments, and other banking transactions.
  • Review payment activity and investigate payment discrepancies or rejected transactions.
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable and other Finance teams to ensure timely and accurate payment processing.
  • Maintain banking administration, including account openings/closures, signing authorities, user access, and banking documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls are maintained across treasury and payment processes.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare recurring treasury and cash management reports for Finance leadership.
  • Analyze cash movements, liquidity trends, and variances and communicate significant items to management.
  • Support the preparation of cash flow forecasts and financial analysis.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to improve cash management and working capital.
  • Develop and maintain treasury reporting, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Identify opportunities to improve treasury processes, controls, reporting, and workflows.
  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of treasury systems, banking platforms, and financial technology.
  • Support automation initiatives to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of treasury processes.
  • Develop and maintain documented treasury procedures and controls.
  • Participate in Finance projects and other initiatives as required.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Work cross-functionally with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Tax, Operations, and other shared service departments.
  • Build effective working relationships with financial institutions, banking representatives, auditors, and other external partners.
  • Provide treasury support and financial guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented Finance environment.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated experience in treasury, cash management, banking, or financial accounting.
  • Experience with bank reconciliations, cash forecasting, payment processing, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience working within a multi-entity organization is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the construction, utilities, infrastructure, or other project-based industries is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with Canadian and US banking or financial operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.

  • Proactive approach to identifying process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Strong judgment and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growing, and changing organization.
  • Strong service-oriented and collaborative approach.

The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.

This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.

Base Pay Range

$95,000—$105,000 CAD
