Franklin County Memorial Hospital has an opening for a PRN (as needed) Admissions Clerk. Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, days, nights and/or weekends as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION Interview incoming patient or representative and enters information required for admission into computer. Obtains and records accurate patient information such as: name, address, e-mail, age, date of birth, social security number, marital status, race, ethnicity, employment, contact information, individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill, scan and label necessary documents, and enter attending physician. Obtains signed statement from patient or arranges for escort to assigned room or ward. Compile data for occupancy and census records. Follow instructions with minimal supervision. Perform other duties as assigned.

· RESPECT AND PRACTICE PATIENT PRIVACY RIGHTS

· ASK FOR/CHECK ID & INSURANCE IDENTIFICATION/SCAN AND LABEL DOCUMENTS

· EXPLAIN/HAVE ALL CONSENTS SIGNED

· PRINT PATIENT FACE SHEET/BRACELET/PATIENT STICKERS

· DIRECT/ESCORT PATIENT TO CORRECT DEPARTMENT

· GENERATE/DISTRIBUTE CENSUS DAILY

· QUALITY ASSURANCE CHECKS

· ASSIST THE TRIAGE NURSE/NURSE PRACTICIONER/OTHER HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES

· TRAIN NEW ADMISSION EMPLOYEES

· ASSIST IN TELEMED SITUATIONS

· KEEP DEPARTMENT SUPPLIES PLENTIFUL AND AVAILABLE

· ASSIST IN EMERGENCY HELICOPTER LANDING PROCEDURES

· DIRECT FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE CORRECT ROOMS

· ANSWER INCOMING CALLS AND FORWARD THEM TO THE CORRECT DEPARTMENT

WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to travel independently throughout the hospital to access information from other departments. Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma required and two (2) years college preferred. One (1) year prior experience in a hospital or Physician’s office preferred. Knowledge of insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial, a plus.

Requires multi-tasking, extensive customer service skills, and the ability to handle stress in a fast paced working environment. Integrity in maintaining confidential information. Convey a positive, professional image and attitude.
