The posting

At Freddie Mac, our mission of Making Home Possible is what motivates us, and it’s at the core of everything we do. Since our charter in 1970, we have made home possible for more than 90 million families across the country. Join an organization where your work contributes to a greater purpose.

Position Overview:

The Network Security & Automation Engineer supports and improves enterprise network security services while developing automation that increases efficiency, consistency, and reliability. The role is equally focused on Network Security engineering and operations and security automation and orchestration. Responsibilities include supporting firewalls, Palo Alto, Zscaler, Cloudflare, URL filtering, security controls, recertification, incident remediation, and related operational processes. The engineer will design and maintain Ansible-based automation and IP/network automation for security infrastructure, policy management, configuration, and validation. The role will also develop workflow and orchestration across security applications, using APIs and integrations to reduce manual processes and improve end-to-end security operations. The ideal candidate combines strong Network Security expertise with an automation mindset and the ability to transform operational requirements into scalable, supportable engineering solutions.

Our Impact:

The role will strengthen Network Core Services by combining hands-on engineering expertise with automation to create more scalable and consistent operations. It will reduce manual effort and operational risk by automating repeatable security processes through Ansible, IP/network automation, APIs, and workflow orchestration.

Your Impact:

The position will improve the efficiency, reliability, and auditability of firewall management, security controls, recertification, and other Network Security processes. Ultimately, the role will allow the team to spend less time on repetitive operational tasks and more time on higher-value security engineering and risk reduction.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of professional experience in network security, network engineering, security engineering, infrastructure automation, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience supporting enterprise network security technologies, including firewalls, secure web gateways, URL filtering, and network security policy management.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, Cloudflare, or comparable enterprise network security platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with Ansible / Ansible Automation Platform, including developing and maintaining playbooks, roles, and reusable automation.
  • Experience with IP and network automation, including automation of network objects, addressing, firewall policies, connectivity, and configuration workflows.
  • Experience integrating and automating security applications using REST APIs, JSON, and API-based integrations.
  • Experience developing or supporting workflow and orchestration solutions that integrate multiple security, network, and enterprise applications.
  • Working knowledge of firewall policy lifecycle management, including access requests, changes, recertification, rule validation, and security controls.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Git/source control, and enterprise change-management practices, with Python or PowerShell experience considered beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate operational security requirements into scalable and supportable automation solutions.

Keys to Success in this Role:

  • Automation Mindset: Consistently identifies repetitive or manual security processes and turns them into scalable, reliable automation.
  • Strong Security Fundamentals: Understands network security well enough to automate firewall, access, policy, and operational processes without losing the security intent behind them.
  • Ownership and Execution: Takes responsibility for assigned work, effectively prioritizes competing demands, and follows solutions through implementation and operational support.
  • Engineering for Sustainability: Builds Ansible automation and orchestration that is reusable, tested, documented, supportable, and designed for long-term use rather than one-time solutions.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: Works effectively across Network Security, infrastructure, architecture, and application teams while continually looking for opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual effort, and improve security outcomes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
