Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Project Paving Department Manager to lead our paving operations from Mt Wellington, Auckland. This is a key role for someone who knows surfacing inside out and can bring together people, plant, programmes, and performance to deliver Good Work every day.

You’ll lead paving projects from planning through to completion, making sure crews and resources are set up well, clients are kept close, and delivery lands safely, on time, to spec, and within budget. It’s a full-time role working 40 hours a week, with some nightshift required depending on the project involved.

This role suits someone who is practical, commercially sharp, calm under pressure, and ready to lead from the front in a business that is flat, friendly, and always moving forward.

The target salary range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000 dependent on experience, and travel around the region is required as part of the position.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Lead paving projects from start to finish, including planning programmes, sequencing work, and coordinating delivery across multiple jobs.
  • Manage crews, subcontractors, plant, and materials to keep projects running safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Oversee client relationships, contracts, budgets, forecasting, and project performance outcomes.
  • Drive strong safety, quality, and compliance standards across all paving operations.
  • Build team capability through clear leadership, accountability, and a low ego, high performance approach.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • Strong paving and asphalt knowledge, including surfacing methods, materials, plant, and site delivery.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering paving works or projects in a civil, roading, or surfacing environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial capability, including budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and performance reporting.
  • The ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and project requirements, then turn them into practical delivery plans.
  • A collaborative leadership style, strong communication skills, and a safety-first mindset.

He pai te mahi, he pai ngā painga | Good work, good benefits

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us. You’ll have access to:

  • Medical insurance and Life insurance after the eligibility period.
  • KiwiSaver employer contributions after service milestones, up to 7%.
  • Parental leave top up payment with additional return to work support.
  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.
  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers.

Ko wai mātou | About us

At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is more than the job in front of us. It’s how we work together, how we back each other, and how we keep finding better ways forward. We’re not big on hierarchy. We’re big on ideas, action, and people who take ownership.

You’ll be joining a team that takes the work seriously, not ourselves. That means a relaxed, human culture day to day, with serious standards when it counts. If you want to lead good people, shape strong results, and be part of a business that is adventurous at heart, this is worth a look.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
