Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ’s relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client’s needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.

An independent, rapidly growing Critical Access Hospital is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a healthcare finance leader who wants to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused hospital while guiding financial strategy, strengthening revenue cycle performance, and supporting significant clinical expansion.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will oversee the hospital's financial operations, revenue cycle, budgeting, cash management, reimbursement strategy, and capital planning. The ideal candidate brings hands-on Critical Access Hospital experience, deep knowledge of Medicare cost reporting, and the ability to build strong relationships with clinical leadership, the Board, and the surrounding community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash management.
  • Provide hands-on leadership across the revenue cycle, including patient access, case management, health information management, billing, and collections.
  • Oversee Medicare cost reporting and ensure compliance with Critical Access Hospital reimbursement requirements.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen cash flow, manage debt obligations, and maintain financial stability.
  • Partner with executive leadership on capital investments, facility expansion, and long-term financial planning.
  • Monitor revenue cycle performance, including collections, DNFB, and other key financial metrics.
  • Provide financial reporting, analysis, and strategic recommendations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.
  • Lead and develop finance and operational teams while helping clinical managers strengthen budgeting and financial management practices.
  • Oversee audits, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and financial risk management.

Qualifications

  • Critical Access Hospital finance experience required; rural hospital experience may be considered.
  • Strong, hands-on revenue cycle leadership experience, including patient access, billing, collections, and related functions.
  • Thorough understanding of Medicare cost reports and Critical Access Hospital reimbursement.
  • Significant progressive healthcare finance experience with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
  • Strong accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, and cash management expertise.
  • Experience with hospital capital projects, debt financing, and financial planning preferred.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field preferred; CPA not required.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to or reside within the Madison/Morgan County area.
