Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer II to support its Mechanical Systems, Externals, & Nacelles (MSEN) Engineering organization. In this role, you will plan and execute design activities, monitor progress, and communicate project status, risks, and key updates to stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

  • Complete Design subtasks and design of individual parts with minimal guidance, owning results and driving work to review and approval of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Discipline Chiefs.
  • Create solid models and print redlines and coordinate with Product Definition (PD) on release
  • Perform complex calculations, such as tolerance stacks, part gapping, part sizing according to standard work and best practices
  • Coordinate cross‑discipline handoffs, understanding how your design impacts structural, thermal, and secondary‑flow analysis teams.
  • Present technical work to Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT) and discipline chiefs, communicating risks and background on design decisions.
  • Execute with urgency to provide recommended disposition to SME for customer fleet issues
  • Support engine builds and teardowns and Engine Centers and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sites

Travel Requirement: up to 20% (Domestic and International).

What You Will Learn:

  • Strengthen technical depth in key Design Discipline areas, including influencing small assembly design, and understanding manufacturing/drawing relationships, and gapping.
  • Engage cross‑disciplinary teams to understand system-level impacts and integrating structural, thermal, and secondary‑flow inputs.
  • Integrate components within a Bearing Compartment, including complex castings, forgings, machinings, bearings, carbon seals, and secondary seals.
  • Integrate design needs across multiple hardware types and neighboring module centers.
  • Communicate effectively with Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT), discipline chiefs, and MSEN Leadership, including presenting risks and mitigations.
  • Independently plan and execute the technical path for medium-scale sub-tasks.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Relevant experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with Design or Modeling of Bearings, Carbon Seals, complex Castings, Machinings, and Forgings.
  • Experience in Lubrication Systems or Thermal Management Systems (TMS).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capability to independently execute multiple tasks, lead projects, and support resource planning with strong decision‑making ability using hardware understanding, analysis, interpretation, and system‑level awareness.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar). Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
