GM Performance Power Units - Concord, NC Quality – Supplier and Process Engineer Intern - Onsite Date of Internship: Summer 2027 Job Summary: GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Supplier and Process Quality Engineering Intern to support quality activities across the supplier, incoming, manufacturing, and assembly functions for Formula 1 power unit components. This internship provides hands-on experience with supplier quality, process quality, nonconformance management, control planning, inspection, quality data, and continuous improvement. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced quality professionals and collaborate with Procurement, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Assembly, Metrology, Materials, and other cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities:
Assist with day-to-day supplier and process quality activities, quality records, and assigned improvement projects. Support the creation, review, documentation, and follow-up of Supplier Deviation Requests (SDRs) and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs). Collect, organize, analyze, and report quality data to support root cause investigations, corrective actions, supplier follow-up, and process improvements. Assist Procurement and Quality with prospective supplier evaluation, supplier onboarding documentation, purchase-order quality requirements, and supplier inspection data collection. Support development and revision of control plans and inspection requirements for incoming parts, raw materials, manufacturing operations, assembly processes, and shop orders. Work with Manufacturing Engineering, Assembly, Design Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Metrology, Materials, Incoming Quality, and IT to help coordinate quality requirements and documentation. Assist with planning for upcoming builds, shop orders, and part arrivals, including identifying inspection needs, timing, required measurement tools, and quality checks. Participate in supervised inspections and measurements of precision components and help document results in applicable quality systems and records. Contribute to Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and the development or revision of audits, procedures, work instructions, and Quality Management System documentation aligned with ISO 9001. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned while learning supplier quality, process quality, and high-precision manufacturing practices.
Required Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field. Interest in supplier quality, process quality, manufacturing, inspection, metrology, or continuous improvement. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other data collection or analysis tools; exposure to CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks is beneficial. Coursework or project experience involving manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, quality systems, statistics, measurement, or problem solving is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Collaboration: Works effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and other external partners. Adaptability: Responds effectively to evolving priorities, business needs, and learning opportunities. Growth mindset and willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and learn new quality tools and processes. Ability to organize and manage multiple assignments with appropriate guidance. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to follow established instructions and procedures.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move in diverse operational environments, including race shops, arenas, and commercial facilities. Comfortable working in variable environmental conditions, including loud, high-traffic, or high-pressure environments.
