The posting

Note: By applying to this position you will have an opportunity to share your preferred working location from the following: Sunnyvale, CA, USA; Atlanta, GA, USA.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of technical program management, field engineering, or industrial equipment delivery experience managing physical infrastructure landings.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Operations, or an MBA with a technical undergraduate degree.
  • Experience developing rigging plans, heavy-lift logistics, crane positioning layouts, and structural setting of heavy pre-fabricated or modular assemblies.
  • Experience with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) interconnects, including fluid quick-connect couplings, electrical busway tie-ins, and high-density fiber topologies.
  • Experience architecting formal closed-loop corrective action processes (e.g., FRACAS, 8D) that convert jobsite assembly challenges into upstream factory design modifications.

About the job

The Modular Manufacturing & Integration organization is leading an industry-defining transformation in how Google delivers technical infrastructure for the AI era. Transitioning away from conventional, on-site, purpose-built civil construction, our mission is to industrialize data center delivery through mass-assembled, standardized modules and off-site manufacturing.

By pushing labor-intensive assembly, systems integration, and quality testing upstream into controlled factory environments, we enable rapid "square wave" capacity delivery—turning on gigawatt-scale AI compute, liquid cooling, power distribution, and network fabric with unprecedented velocity upon site arrival.

You will serve as the premier field technical authority and operational bridgehead ensuring Google’s manufactured modular infrastructure products land, interconnect, and integrate seamlessly across global sites. In this founding leadership role—initially operating as a high-leverage technical leader with the mandate to recruit and scale a team of Field Support Engineers and Site Integration TPMs—you will establish the operational standard for how modular data center products are deployed.

Operating much like a Director of Field Support/Field Applications Engineering from an advanced industrial equipment manufacturer, you and your function are the technical experts who walk deployment sites, local general contractors, and external partners through their initial interactions with our modular solutions. Your scope begins as factory modules arrive on-site and culminates once units are safely offloaded, rigged, precision-set, seismically anchored, and have all mechanical, electrical, fluid, and fiber interconnects mated and verified for handover to local commissioning teams. Crucially, you will advocate for a disciplined field-to-factory feedback loop, partnering with manufacturing and design engineering to systematically engineer friction out of the field deployment critical path.

The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. We empower Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide.

We're the driving force behind Google's groundbreaking innovations, empowering the development of our cutting-edge AI models, delivering unparalleled computing power to global services, and providing the essential platforms that enable developers to build the future. From software to hardware our teams are shaping the future of world-leading hyperscale computing, with key teams working on the development of our TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, Data Center operations, systems research, and much more.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Author and enforce global field engineering standards, detailed rigging playbooks, crane layout guidelines, site logistics procedures for offloading, handling, and positioning.
  • Lead the on-site technical execution of initial modular prototype and production deployments worldwide (requiring up to 75% travel during peak waves).
  • Own physical module landing process through interconnect completion. Provide subject-matter expertise on heavy-lift logistics, tandem crane lifts, and tight-tolerance rigging, collaborating closely with local site GC's and EHS authorities.
  • Feed structured, data-driven field insights directly back to Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering and Design Engineering teams.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of Field Support Engineers and Site Integration TPMs. Drive end-to-end alignment to compress arrival-to-interconnect cycle times.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
