The posting

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience working in insect biology.
  • 5 years of experience in the planning and operational roll-out of public health programs, pest control interventions, or other logistical projects.
  • 5 years of experience in pitching mosquito intervention programs to governments or other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel internationally 25% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in mass rearing and downstream quality assessment of mosquitoes or other insects.
  • Proficiency in data analytics using Google Sheets, R, Python, or similar tools to support daily tasks and reporting.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in modern molecular biology and genomics.

About the job

The Debug team is an interdisciplinary group of mosquito biologists, data scientists, engineers, build technicians, and operations specialists. We are dedicated to developing innovative solutions to reduce the impact of mosquito-borne diseases. In collaboration with global partners, we are deploying Wolbachia mosquitoes at-scale to prevent mosquito-borne disease.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and pitch proposals to external stakeholders, design field programs, and operationally implement them in new settings.
  • Design detailed scientific and operational playbooks for implementing new suppression and replacement programs.
  • Characterize the bionomics and performance of new mosquito strains using insectary and field-based bioassays.
  • Test the impact of new rearing and release methods/equipment on mosquito quality.
