Zynx Health, part of the Hearst Health Network, is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Development to lead software engineering execution across multiple development teams. This role directly manages Software Development Leads and is accountable for software delivery, engineering quality, release readiness, development practices, resource planning, and cross-team coordination.

This leader provides organizational leadership, standards, governance, coaching, and delivery oversight across teams. DevOps resources are embedded within individual development teams and managed by the respective Software Development Leads; this role provides the cross-team standards, governance, and oversight that keep engineering practices aligned.

This is an opportunity for a people-focused, delivery-oriented engineering leader to strengthen engineering consistency, improve development practices, mature release readiness, reduce technical debt, and support responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the overall software engineering organization through Software Development Leads.
  • Manage, coach, and develop Software Development Leads, setting clear priorities, ownership, delivery expectations, and accountability.
  • Provide leadership across multiple software development teams, workstreams, and technology platforms.
  • Support team maturity, leadership development, performance management, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.

Delivery Execution and Cross-Team Coordination

  • Own software delivery execution, sprint and release readiness, quality practices, resource planning, and cross-team dependency management.
  • Translate product and technology priorities into clear team plans, delivery expectations, milestones, and execution priorities.
  • Identify and communicate delivery risks, blockers, dependencies, staffing needs, operational concerns, and recommended actions.
  • Partner with product management, architecture, data platforms, security, compliance, QA, and business stakeholders to align delivery execution with business and technology priorities.

Engineering Standards and Development Practices

  • Establish and reinforce consistent engineering standards across teams, including maintainable design, code quality, documentation, testing, code review, release readiness, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure Software Development Leads apply consistent development, CI/CD, operational support, and team-level DevOps practices within their teams.
  • Promote reusable patterns, responsible modernization, automation, and technical-debt reduction while balancing speed, quality, security, and reliability.
  • Define and monitor engineering metrics related to delivery predictability, quality, release readiness, operational health, and team effectiveness.

Embedded DevOps and Operational Readiness

  • Provide governance and oversight for embedded DevOps practices across development teams.
  • Ensure team-level DevOps execution aligns with organization-wide standards for CI/CD, deployment automation, observability, incident response, and operational support.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Manager, Data Platforms & Architecture and the Senior Manager, Security & Compliance on platform, infrastructure, architecture, security, compliance, and operational initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement in release processes, deployment reliability, observability, and production support practices.

AI-Assisted Engineering and Continuous Improvement

  • Establish expectations for responsible use of AI-assisted coding and engineering tools.
  • Ensure AI-generated code, scripts, documentation, tests, automation, and technical recommendations are reviewed for quality, security, maintainability, and appropriateness.
  • Encourage practical use of AI-assisted tools to improve productivity, troubleshooting, documentation, testing, refactoring, and delivery efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, engineering accountability, and thoughtful innovation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, software engineering leadership, application development, DevOps, platform engineering, or related technology roles.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing software development teams, technical leads, engineering leads, or cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience managing software delivery across multiple teams, workstreams, or product delivery areas.
  • Experience leading through technical leads, team leads, or first-line engineering leaders.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching, mentoring, performance management, communication, and team-development skills.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development lifecycle practices, CI/CD, DevOps principles, cloud-native platforms, secure software delivery, and operational readiness.
  • Ability to translate product and technology priorities into clear team plans, execution priorities, and measurable delivery outcomes.
  • Experience partnering with architecture, security, compliance, QA, product management, data platforms, and business stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of relevant technologies such as Java, Groovy, Spring Boot, Svelte, SvelteKit, TypeScript, Vite, React, .NET Core, C#, MarkLogic, Redis, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, GitLab CI/CD, Tekton, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Keycloak, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, or related tools.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent practical experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in healthcare, clinical content, regulated software, compliance-driven environments, or enterprise SaaS.
  • Experience leading distributed or remote software engineering teams.
  • Experience improving engineering standards, release-readiness practices, CI/CD consistency, or operational support models across multiple teams.
  • Experience guiding responsible adoption of AI-assisted coding or engineering productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with embedded DevOps models, platform engineering partnerships, or shared engineering-practice governance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
