As Heartland Bank continues to grow and evolve, we're looking for a Line 2 Assurance Analyst to join our Enterprise Risk team. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in strengthening Heartland's risk and control environment while partnering with leaders across the business to drive meaningful improvements.

If you're an experienced Assurance, Risk or Internal Audit professional who enjoys asking the right questions, challenging constructively, and influencing positive change, we'd love to hear from you.

Te Wero | The Opportunity

As our Line 2 Assurance Analyst, you'll independently deliver targeted assurance reviews across key non-financial risks, regulatory obligations, policies and business processes.

Working within Enterprise Risk, you'll provide objective assurance on whether key controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively. You'll identify weaknesses, uncover improvement opportunities, and provide practical recommendations that strengthen Heartland's control environment and risk maturity.

This role offers significant exposure across the business and the opportunity to engage with senior stakeholders while maintaining the independence essential to effective Line 2 assurance.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading and delivering risk-based assurance reviews across a range of non-financial risk domains
  • Producing high-quality assurance reporting that delivers meaningful insights and drives improvements.
  • Providing balanced, independent challenge and becoming a trusted advisor to stakeholders
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of assurance practices and the organisations overall risk maturity.
  • Building strong relationships across the business while maintaining appropriate independence and objectivity

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical assurance capability with commercial thinking and a passion for continuous improvement.

Your experience

  • 3-5+ years' experience within Assurance, Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance, or a related Line 2 function
  • Experience within banking, financial services, or a regulated environment
  • Demonstrated success delivering assurance reviews, audits, control assessments, compliance monitoring activities, or risk reviews
  • Experience engaging with senior leaders and governance stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Law, Management or a related discipline

Your capability

  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, internal controls and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to analyse complex information, identify root causes and recommend practical solutions
  • Experience working with data and reporting tools to support risk-based decision making
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Confidence influencing stakeholders and providing constructive challenge
  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to produce clear, impactful reports
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and comfortable working in an evolving environment
  • A continuous improvement mindset and genuine curiosity about how things can work better

You'll thrive here if you...

  • Enjoy balancing independence with partnership
  • Like solving complex problems and uncovering insights
  • Are confident engaging with leaders across the business
  • Want to influence positive change and improve customer outcomes
  • Take pride in delivering high-quality work and meaningful recommendations

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
