Job Description

Be at the core of Heathrow’s Hold Baggage System (HBS), where you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and optimising the specialist screening equipment that keeps airport operations running smoothly.

In this hands-on position, you’ll apply a broad, multi-skilled approach across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and IT disciplines, including networks, computer systems and Linux systems. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the reliability and performance of critical assets within a high-demand, fast-paced setting.

You’ll be responsible for delivering both planned and corrective maintenance, while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, project delivery, and asset replacement programmes that enhance operational efficiency and resilience.

Working within a forward-thinking and innovative environment, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated team focused on safety, performance, and excellence, supporting the seamless operation of one of the world’s busiest airports.

Salary: £46,345 plus £6,624 shift allowance. Shift pattern 4 on [2 days, 2 nights -12 hour shifts] and 4 days off. Please note this role requires CTC clearance which require candidates to have resided in the UK for the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional passenger experience by maintaining and optimising Heathrow’s Hold Baggage System assets.
  • Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure assets operate safely and reliably.
  • Diagnose faults and performance issues, identify improvement opportunities, and implement effective solutions that enhance operational performance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including asset maintenance histories, to drive efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety by proactively identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and fostering a safe working environment for all.
  • Champion continuous improvement, promoting best practice and contributing to ongoing operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • You must hold a recognised multi-skilled, module-based NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification, or a recognised indentured apprenticeship, in a relevant mechanical and electrical engineering discipline.

Examples include a Level 3 EAL or City & Guilds (C&G) NVQ in one of the following areas:

  • Engineering Maintenance (Electrical and Mechanical modules)
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Electromechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering
  • Controls Engineering
  • Electrical Installation (including AM2)
  • Rail maintenance (eg rolling stock, signalling)

Please note that standalone qualifications, such as BTECs or degrees, are not considered equivalent to a practically assessed NVQ. Therefore, they will not be accepted unless supported by a relevant NVQ qualification.

  • Full UK driving licence including the ability to obtain and maintain airside licences and permits.
  • Strong hands-on experience, gained within an engineering environment.
  • Analytical thinking and sound problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise in a complex and fast-paced setting.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
