The posting

Company Description

The House of Commons Administration delivers outstanding services to Members of Parliament and their employees in support of parliamentary democracy. Our success is made possible by our talented and dedicated workforce. We leverage diversity in all its forms and recognize that everyone has valuable contributions to make and the potential for individual growth. If you dream of joining an organization that is small enough for you to be noticed, but big enough to provide you with a meaningful career, then we want to hear from you!

Job Description

The House of Commons is looking to staff the House of Commons Page position for a one-year term during the 2027-2028 academic year.

Each year, 40 students are selected from across Canada to participate in the page program. Pages are first-year students registered at one of the eligible post-secondary institutions in the National Capital Region.

As a page, you will work on a part-time basis in the House of Commons Chamber under the direction of a group of supervisors and a coordinator. You will work in a fast-paced environment where you will showcase your strong time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a sense of team spirit. Professional, impartial and efficient service is a hallmark of the House of Commons Page Program.

In this role, you will support parliamentary proceedings by providing various services to Members of Parliament, the Speaker and other chair occupants, and Table Officers. For example, you will collect and distribute official documents, deliver messages to Members, serve as a link between Members and their Parliament Hill offices, respond to requests from Members and staff, and answer telephone calls. On occasion, you will also meet with youth groups to speak about your duties as a page and your experience working on the Hill.

A general knowledge of the Canadian parliamentary system can be beneficial but is not mandatory.

The page program values your academic success and your work–life balance. Note that not all post-secondary programs of study have a course schedule that aligns with the work schedule of a page. We encourage you to consult our FAQ section to learn more.

Provincial and territorial representation will be considered during the recruitment and selection process.

Top Reasons to Join the Page Program

The page program will give you an incredible work experience to support your academic and career goals. You will have a direct access to the rich traditions of the Canadian parliamentary system and the opportunity to connect with students from across the country and create lasting friendships.

  • Work at the heart of democracy and experience debates live in the Chamber.
  • Assist with ceremonial and protocol events.
  • Work part-time while completing your studies.
  • Receive an attractive salary ($20,018 annual salary [under review] plus a sum of $1,200 at the end of the employment period for successful completion of the contract).
  • Subject to certain conditions, the program will reimburse your travel expenses from a location in Canada outside the National Capital Region (usually your place of residence) to Ottawa at the beginning of your one-year contract, as well as from Ottawa to that location (or another location in Canada) at the end of your contract.
  • Perfect your second official language (English or French) with second language training.
  • Access other training and development opportunities.
  • Access well-being resources.

Qualifications

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Be graduating, or have graduated, from high school.
  • Be starting first year of full-time or part-time studies in September 2027 at one of the eligible post-secondary institutions in the National Capital Region.
  • Be willing to reside in the National Capital Region during your year of employment.
  • Be able to communicate fluently in both official languages (oral proficiency), as formally assessed by the House of Commons.

Experiences:

  • Experience providing client service through employment, volunteering or extracurricular activities.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities (e.g. work, school, community involvement, family).
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with peers (e.g. teamwork, conflict resolution).

Asset:

  • Demonstrate interest in learning about the Canadian parliamentary system and its history.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
