Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

Who are we?

Howden is a global, employee-owned insurance group operating across more than 50 territories, with a presence spanning broking, underwriting, and risk management services. Howden combines international scale with local specialization, and ownership structure extends broadly across its employee base.

Why work at Howden?

Howden operates with a culture built on collaboration, technical expertise, and long-term relationship building with clients and carrier partners. Employees are provided access to development resources, industry training, and cross-functional collaboration across Howden’s global network. The employee-ownership model aligns individual performance with the organization’s overall results.

What is the role?

Howden is seeking a Producer to join its Construction practice in New York. This role focuses on new business development and client relationship management within the construction insurance vertical, including contractors, developers, and construction-related risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, prospect, and develop new client relationships within the construction industry (general contractors, subcontractors, developers, owners)
  • Build and manage a book of business, meeting or exceeding revenue and growth targets
  • Structure and place insurance programs, including general liability, builder’s risk, surety, workers’ compensation, excess/umbrella, and other construction-specific coverages
  • Collaborate with underwriters, account executives, and claims teams to deliver tailored risk management solutions
  • Maintain strong carrier relationships to negotiate favorable terms and pricing for clients
  • Stay current on construction industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks (e.g., wrap-up programs, subcontractor default insurance, cyber exposures in construction)
  • Represent Howden at industry events, trade associations, and networking functions to build market presence
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure high-quality service delivery and client retention

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as a Producer or Broker in commercial insurance, with a focus on construction
  • Active NY Property & Casualty broker license (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated track record of new business production and revenue growth
  • Deep understanding of construction-specific coverage lines (CGL, builder’s risk, surety, OCIP/CCIP wrap-ups)
  • Established relationships within the New York construction and real estate development community
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; industry designations (CIC, CRIS, CPCU) a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $200,000 - $300,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is eligible to participate in a commission-based incentive program. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including healthcare savings and reimbursement accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and paid parental leave
  • Life and Disability insurance

Our sustainability promise

Howden is committed to operating sustainably and to supporting the communities in which it operates. The organization integrates environmental, social, and governance considerations into its business practices and encourages employee participation in sustainability initiatives.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new
  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges
  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
