The posting

Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The role

Howden Markets is a fast‑paced, globally connected team representing the interests of Howden Broking, Howden Reinsurance and DUAL. We operate at the intersection of strategy and execution, with data at the heart of how we drive intelligent decision‑making, operational excellence, and service innovation.

Join Howden Markets as a Data & Insights Analyst and turn complex insurance data into clear insights that shape commercial and strategic decisions. Reporting to the Head of Data & Analytics and working within a team of analysts in London, you’ll own high-quality analytics, reporting and visualisation that supports Howden Markets, senior internal stakeholders and insurer clients, while helping strengthen the team’s data strategy, technology and ways of working.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Central London, with an expected onsite presence of 4 days per week on average.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver high-quality reports, dashboards and analytical solutions using Power BI and Excel to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for Howden Markets, internal stakeholders and insurer clients.
  • Analyse placement solutions, including Howden facilities and competitive panels, and insurer portfolios to monitor performance and identify opportunities.
  • Support the rollout of Databricks by migrating data pipelines and Power BI reporting, testing and reconciling outputs and documenting new processes and standards.
  • Partner with Market Management and Group Placement to identify opportunities where analytics can support revenue generation, improve efficiency and enhance service delivery.
  • Gather stakeholder requirements and translate them into clear reporting specifications, measures and analytical outputs.
  • Develop visual tools and reporting approaches that make complex information accessible and useful to decision-makers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Howden Markets data, helping colleagues understand datasets, reporting outputs and potential data issues.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, standardise reporting and embed scalable analytics practices across the team.
  • Maintain clear documentation for reports, analysis, data processes and standards to support consistency and transparency.
  • Build effective working relationships across Group Data, Howden Markets functions and the wider analytics community.
  • Explore emerging technology and AI capabilities that could strengthen the team’s data strategy, analytical capability and service delivery.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience using Power BI, Power Query and Excel to analyse data and develop high-quality reports, dashboards and visualisations.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and Databricks is essential, including working with data pipelines, datasets or reporting environments.
  • At least two years’ experience in the insurance market, with London Market insurance experience preferred.
  • Experience analysing large datasets and performance KPIs, turning findings into practical commercial or operational insights.
  • Demonstrable experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements, define reporting needs and communicate complex data clearly.
  • Experience improving reporting processes, automating manual activity or establishing consistent analytics practices.
  • Experience using Tableau, Qlik or another comparable business intelligence platform is relevant; VBA experience would also be advantageous.
  • Evidence of delivering analytical work independently while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Relevant technical or insurance qualifications, such as Microsoft certifications or CII qualifications, would be advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal English, with the ability to explain technical and analytical findings clearly to different audiences.
  • Strong numeracy and quantitative capability, including the ability to interpret large datasets, performance measures and KPIs accurately.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new
  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges
  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

*Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
