Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant for its Norfolk office to provide administrative and client-service support to attorneys and clients. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares routine correspondence, estate planning binders, reports, agreements, letters, and other related documents. Delivers superior client service and acts as liaison between clients and the attorneys by maintaining continual communications via email, telephone, and in person.
Maintains attorneys’ calendars; schedules and follows up on client appointments, case-related appointments, meetings, and conference calls.
Opens, organizes, maintains, and closes paper and electronic client files, including files and sub-files. Arranges for tax returns to be signed by appropriate attorneys and clients. Inputs timekeeper data and prepares and distributes monthly billing statements. Reviews, sorts, and dates mail. Performs a variety of other administrative tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Three or more years’ relevant work experience as a legal assistant in a professional office setting is preferred. Knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as Adobe and Nuance. Ability to type at least 60 WPM. Operational knowledge of standard office equipment including copier, scanner, and telephone. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Meticulous attention to detail and proofreading skills. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion, adapt to competing demands, and consistently demonstrate a high level of client service and responsiveness. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
