The posting

About Your Team UI Brokerage team is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a team building high-performance, mission-critical trading and brokerage systems used by clients and third parties around the globe. Our platforms power real-time trading in stocks, futures, options, and other financial instruments, supporting a demanding, high-availability user base. You'll work on a mature, feature-rich Java-based product suite where reliability, performance, and security are top priorities in everything we build, while continuously extending capabilities and refining the experience for our clients.  What will be your responsibilities within IBKR:

Design, develop, and maintain features across the trading application and Web API platform, with a primary focus on the Java business and service layers. Build backend services and clients that expose internal services, integrating with systems over REST, WebSockets, and FIX to deliver responsive, reliable functionality. Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, unit and integration testing, code review, and ongoing maintenance of delivered features. Write and maintain clear technical documentation, including documentation for new interfaces, and regression tests to ensure platform stability. Collaborate with business analysts, product managers, and other developers to translate requirements into high-quality, well-architected software. Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across the stack, providing escalated (third-level) support as needed. Stay current with relevant tools, libraries, frameworks, and techniques—including modern AI-assisted development tools—that can improve platform quality and delivery speed.

Skills Required

Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience. Strong proficiency in Java, with a deep understanding of object-oriented programming and software design patterns. Proven experience with Java frameworks such as Spring and/or Vert.x. Strong command of RESTful web service design and implementation, along with experience in WebSockets and real-time communication in a Java-based environment. Solid software development fundamentals, including writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code and producing clear technical documentation. Experience with JUnit or other testing frameworks for unit and integration testing. Working knowledge of multithreading and concurrency, with an appreciation for lean, low-latency programming. Proficiency with Git for source control and collaborative development. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues across a large, established codebase. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

To be successful in this position, you will have the following:

Experienced with declarative, state-driven UI frameworks (React Native, Flutter, QML, etc.) is a plus; genuine interest in learning is equally valued. Familiar with financial trading platforms and instruments such as stocks, futures, and options, or possess a strong interest in learning the domain. Exposed to Linux as a development or deployment environment. Working familiarity with Gradle as a build automation tool. Familiar with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS) as a plus. Aware of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and other agentic coding tools. Experienced with agile development methodologies as a plus. Comfortable working within an established codebase, following existing architectural patterns, team conventions, and development protocols. Able to ramp up quickly on a mature platform and deliver incremental value while respecting existing design decisions. Flexible and pragmatic, with the judgment to know when to follow precedent and when to raise a well-reasoned alternative. Self-motivated with a high-ownership mindset, able to take features from design through delivery with minimal supervision in a fast-paced team. Possess superb analytical and problem-solving skills, along with outstanding organizational and time management abilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
