The posting

The IBM Canada Lab in Markham, Ontario is one of the largest R&D facilities in Canada. As a Content Designer intern at the IBM Canada Lab, you would be part of a team that transforms our customer’s challenges into solutions.

This role is for a Content Design Intern on the IBM Bob team. IBM Bob is an AI coding partner used worldwide. As a Content Design intern, you will own and expand the documentation that helps customers get the most out of Bob.

Your Role and responsibilities

- Write and maintain technical documentation, including getting-started guides, feature references, configuration walkthroughs, troubleshooting, FAQs, etc.

- Work directly in the codebase in a React/MDX repository.

- Keep documentation current with new features. When a feature is released, you are in the pull request review loop: reading diffs, asking clarifying questions, and drafting the matching documentation in the same release cycle.

- Make content structure decisions. When a new configuration section or feature area is added, you propose how to organize it.

- Write and review UI copy, including labels, tooltips, empty states, error messages, and onboarding flows.

- Apply IBM Style standards consistently.

- Fix issues that arise in translation files, such as broken MDX syntax or misaligned content structure. Address feedback from fluent subject-matter experts when translated content needs correction.

- Run link validation and ensure pull requests pass automated checks before requesting review.

- Use Bob daily to draft content, check consistency, and work through complex documentation tasks. Improving the product depends on people who use it seriously.

- Continuously improve how Bob is used across the documentation workflow by creating and refining skills, modes, and rules that make the process more consistent and repeatable.

- Improve doc tooling where you see opportunities. Writing automation scripts is preferred but not required.

- Strong problem solving and communication skills. - Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaboratively. - Ability to design, develop, edit, and produce accurate and effective technical documentation.

- Able to write with clear and direct language. You produce concise, active-voice content with no marketing language, no unnecessary padding, and using consistent application of IBM Style.

- Working familiarity with Git and GitHub. You branch, commit, push, open pull requests, respond to review feedback, and resolve conflicts independently.

- Proficiency with Markdown or MDX, including file metadata, tables, and structured content syntax.

- Ability to read code well enough to document it accurately, follow a code sample, understand a configuration schema, and recognize when a command-line example is incorrect.

Program Start Date: May 3 2027

Program Duration: 12-16 months

Candidates must be available to participate in the full duration of the internship.

- Familiarity with AI coding tools.

- Experience with React-based documentation frameworks.

- Exposure to MCP (Model Context Protocol), VS Code extensions, or terminal/shell tooling.

- Experience writing automation scripts.

- Familiarity with internationalization (i18n) workflows, such as managing locale file parity or working with translation tooling.

- Understanding of IBM Design Thinking practices, DevOps and a variety of software engineering concepts.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?
