The Application Engineering team provides top-tier support, maintenance, and solution design on multiple applications, including message queueing (SWIFT, IBM MQ), and reporting platforms (Business Objects, Tableau). The Senior SWIFT & IBM MQ Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed UNIX and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team, owning configuration management for supported applications and coordinating with release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and implement integrated solutions across SWIFT, IBM MQ, and supporting messaging infrastructure
  • Tune systems for maximum performance and throughput across financial messaging environments
  • Respond to and support production operations in a 24/7 environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues both proactively and as discovered, across SWIFT, IBM MQ, Tableau, and other enterprise applications
  • Provide application support and administration for SWIFT, IBM MQ, Tableau, and other applications
  • Manage application configurations, patch levels and evolution paths
  • Own technical problems from root cause through resolution, providing analysis and solutions that get implemented
  • Provide support to and coordinate with developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users
  • Educate and mentor team members and operations staff
  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support and change events

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience supporting SWIFT, IBM MQ, or similar enterprise messaging platforms
  • 5+ years supporting enterprise middleware and financial messaging platforms, with direct hands-on experience in both SWIFT and IBM MQ
  • Direct experience installing, configuring, and administering SWIFT Alliance Access and Alliance Gateway
  • Direct experience administering IBM MQ, including queue managers, channels, and performance tuning
  • Experience troubleshooting SWIFT and IBM MQ issues in a live production environment, including connectivity, messaging flows, and system performance
  • Comfortable administering both Windows Server (2019 and later) and Linux (RedHat preferred) in a regulated financial messaging environment
  • Working knowledge of SDLC processes and tools including GIT and configuration management platforms like Puppet or Ansible
  • Solid understanding of DR, BCP, and how to manage systems across production and non-production environments
  • Able to build automation using scripting or tools such as Ansible, Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar
  • Strong problem solver and clear communicator, comfortable working through ambiguous, high-stakes situations with both technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience enforcing SWIFT security controls in line with CSCF requirements, across on-premises and cloud or hybrid environments
  • Experience with SWIFT Alliance software upgrades and mandatory annual Standards Release cycles
  • Experience configuring MQ channel security (TLS/SSL, CHLAUTH) and managing the certificate lifecycle, including mutual TLS with externally issued certificates
  • Experience configuring and tuning core IBM MQ objects - queue managers, queues, channels, and listeners, including monitoring queue depth and diagnosing message delivery issues
  • Proficient with IBM MQ command-line administration, including MQSC commands and command-line utilities for configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and patch/fix pack management for MQ environments with minimal downtime
  • Experience with Tableau or other reporting and visualization tools

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
