Job Description

Coherent is a global leader in photonics, developing advanced laser, optical and materials technologies that enable semiconductor manufacturing, AI infrastructure, advanced communications and precision industrial applications worldwide.

Senior Reliability Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Reliability Engineer to join our Quality & Reliability team within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful qualification, reliability, and long-term performance of semiconductor products from development through volume production. Working closely with Design, Product, Test, Process, and Manufacturing teams, you will lead reliability qualification activities, perform lifetime modelling and statistical analysis, investigate failure mechanisms, and drive continuous improvements to product robustness and reliability capability. This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex reliability findings to both internal stakeholders and customers.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead reliability activities throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure successful qualification of new semiconductor products and technologies.
  • Develop qualification strategies, test plans, and reliability requirements for new products, process changes, and manufacturing improvements.
  • Execute and analyse reliability testing including accelerated tests (high temperature and high electrical stress) and environmental tests in climate chambers
  • Perform failure rate predictions and lifetime assessments using wear-out modelling, Weibull analysis, Arrhenius modelling, and other reliability methodologies.
  • Monitor, identify, and investigate early-life failures, random failures, and wear-out mechanisms.
  • Drive root cause investigations and failure analysis activities to identify reliability risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate reliability requirements and qualification activities with Design, Product, Test Development, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Own qualification reporting and communicate reliability results to project teams, management, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and continuously develop reliability test methods, data analysis techniques, and laboratory capabilities.
  • Support volume manufacturing by monitoring ongoing reliability performance and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply statistical analysis and data-driven decision making to evaluate product reliability and process capability.
  • Act as a technical authority for reliability qualification decisions, approving or rejecting qualification results against defined specifications.

What You’ll Bring

  • Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience in Reliability Engineering within the semiconductor, microelectronics, photonics, or advanced manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, failure mechanisms, and reliability qualification methodologies.
  • Experience developing and executing qualification plans for new products and technology platforms.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis and experimental design using tools such as JMP, Minitab, R, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience designing experiments, collecting data, and interpreting complex technical results.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability modelling, lifetime prediction, and failure rate analysis.
  • Programming capability for data collection, analysis, automation, and visualisation.
  • Experience leading structured root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills with experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in wafer fabrication, photonics, CMOS, power semiconductor, SiC, GaN, MEMS, or compound semiconductor technologies.
  • Knowledge of JEDEC, GR-468, or other reliability qualification standards.
  • Experience with advanced failure analysis techniques including SEM, TEM, FIB, EDX, X-Ray Inspection, and C-SAM.
  • Fluency in English, with Swedish language skills considered advantageous. Key Competencies
  • Reliability Qualification
  • Lifetime Modelling & Failure Rate Prediction
  • Semiconductor Device Physics
  • Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation
  • Statistical Analysis & Experimental Design (DOE)
  • Data Analytics & Programming
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Project Coordination
  • Technical Communication
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
