Company Description

Informa is a leading academic publishing, business intelligence, knowledge, and events business, creating unique content and connectivity for customers all over the world. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE 100.

Taylor & Francis is one of the world’s largest publishers of high-quality, peer reviewed scholarly journals, books, e-books and reference works. We empower learners, thinkers and doers with trusted knowledge that advances research and enriches lives. We bring together diverse people, ideas and opinions to validate and publish the experts, theories and truths that matter. And we’ve been doing this in an unbroken arc since 1798.

Our purpose is to foster human progress through knowledge. We strongly believe that this requires us to encourage and examine different ideas and voices, so that any work that meets our exacting levels of quality deserves to be included in our publications. This requires open minds, the opportunity for robust debate, and the courage to defend perspectives that stand up to scrutiny, even if they conflict with our personal beliefs or values. Because that’s the only way to find the best obtainable version of the truth and, ultimately, foster human progress. If you agree, then we’d love to hear from you.

Job Description

Taylor & Francis publishes more than 2,700 peer-reviewed academic journals globally, with an established and growing list of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) titles publishing under the Routledge imprint. We currently have a vacancy available at Associate Publisher or Publisher level for an experienced and conscientious colleague to join our journals editorial team. This role is to work on a journals portfolio within the Humanities, Media and the Arts team.

As a Publisher at Taylor & Francis, you will lead and grow a portfolio of academic journals, driving commercial success through strategic development plans that enhance quality and profitability. You'll build and maintain valuable partnerships with academic societies and journal editors, represent our brand at conferences, and leverage your market expertise to identify growth opportunities. Working collaboratively across departments, you'll ensure operational excellence, meet revenue targets, and strengthen Taylor & Francis's position as a leader in academic publishing.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday November 18, 2026.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead and grow a portfolio of academic journals, developing strategic plans that drive quality, growth, and profitability while meeting or exceeding revenue and article volume targets.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with academic societies, journal editors, and academic communities, representing Taylor & Francis at conferences and editorial board meetings.
  • Maintaining thorough knowledge of industry trends and competitor activity to inform journal development decisions
  • Monitor journal performance metrics and implement initiatives to improve journal rankings and reputation.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with academic societies, editors, and contributors
  • Develop and execute plans to expand the portfolio, including launching new journals, acquiring existing titles, or transitioning journals to open access models.
  • Represent Taylor & Francis as a thought leader in academic publishing, participating in industry panels, workshops, and networking events to strengthen the brand's presence and influence.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical publishing standards and policies, fostering trust and credibility within the academic community.

This role will require some travel to conferences and to meet editors in-person.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • A solid background in academic publishing, with a deep understanding of best practices, publication ethics, peer review processes, and funder mandates.
  • Familiarity with open access publishing models, impact metrics, and the evolving needs of the academic community
  • A proven ability to identify and analyse market opportunities, assess competitive landscapes, and develop strategic plans that drive portfolio growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Experience in setting and achieving revenue and article volume targets. Demonstrated expertise in building and nurturing strong networks within academic communities, including editors, authors, reviewers, and society partners.
  • Ability to foster trust and collaboration with external stakeholders to ensure long-term partnerships and mutual success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and deliver impactful presentations
  • A data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret performance metrics, identify trends, and develop logical, innovative solutions to challenges.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of trends in academic publishing, including emerging technologies, policy changes, and competitor activity.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain focus under pressure.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
