Position Title: Business Development Manager – Gas, Water Tubing and Electrical

Department: Sales

Reports To: Director of Sales or designate

Travel: Up to 75%

Sales Territory: North America

Location: Strategic location near a US major airport

Position Summary

Business Development Manager leads route-to-market strategy, customer acquisition, and team development across the Specialty Products portfolio: Gas, Water Tubing, and Electrical. This role owns commercial direction for three distinct but complementary segments, sets the go-to-market approach for each, attracts new end customers and distribution partners, and builds the internal and external team required to scale revenue.

Unlike a traditional regional sales manager, this position operates at a higher level of accountability—defining how IPS competes in each segment, deciding channel versus direct models, identifying white-space opportunities (including data-center and utility site development where electrical conduit and related products intersect with broader infrastructure demand), and ensuring the organization has the right people, processes, and partnerships in place. The Business Development Manager will have direct oversight of sales personnel in each of these areas while building out a larger team.

Key Responsibilities

  • • Grow sales of IPS's electrical, gas and water tubing product lines through associated routes to market by strengthening existing partnerships and developing new accounts.
  • • Define and execute route-to-market strategies for Gas, Water Tubing, and Electrical segments, including channel design, direct-versus-distributor decisions, pricing architecture, and territory coverage models.
  • • Attract and develop new end customers and distribution partners across all three segments, with particular emphasis on high-growth areas such as data-center construction, utility infrastructure, and municipal/commercial water applications.
  • • Build and lead the Specialty Products commercial team, including recruiting, coaching, and performance management of Regional Sales Managers (notably the Corrugated Electrical Conduit RSM), business development resources, and supporting roles as the segments scale.
  • • Identify and prioritize white-space opportunities and adjacent markets where customer overlap exists (e.g., contractors and engineers specifying both electrical conduit/junction boxes and stormwater/drainage products, or gas and water tubing applications).
  • • Establish segment-level revenue, margin, and growth targets; develop accurate multi-year forecasts and track performance against plan.
  • • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Marketing, and Customer Service to ensure product readiness, technical support, quoting responsiveness, and successful project execution.
  • • Represent IPS at industry events, trade associations, and strategic customer/distributor meetings to build brand presence and pipeline.
  • • Provide regular commercial intelligence, competitive insights, and recommendations to the CCO and broader leadership team.
  • • Own full accountability for Specialty Products financial results, including revenue growth, gross margin, product mix, and new-customer acquisition metrics.

Qualifications & Requirements

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field. MBA preferred.

2. Experience:

  • o 5+ years of sales and leadership experience in a related field
  • o Proven success managing a distribution network and driving sustained sales growth.
  • o Experience applying data and market analysis to guide sales decisions.
  • o Working knowledge of fluid and electrical systems

3. Skills:

  • o Strong negotiation, relationship management, and presentation skills.
  • o Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • o Proficient in CRM systems, MS Office Suite, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • o Leadership abilities

4. Other:

  • o Willingness to travel up to 75% across the region.
  • o Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently in a home office.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
