The posting

Assistant General Manager (Technical Operations)

We are looking for a hands-on and experienced Assistant GM (Technical Operations) for a well-established marine product & services company. The AGM (Technical Operations) will lead the company's after-sales service and technical operations. This role will focus on engine troubleshooting, repair quality, and technical team leadership, ensuring high service standards and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate must have a strong engineering background, be technically hands-on, and possess strong working knowledge of 4-stroke marine engines, power generators, and marine auxiliary machinery/equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & After-Sales Operations

  • Lead and manage the after-sales service team, including engineers and technicians
  • Oversee troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and maintenance of 4-stroke marine engines, generators, and auxiliary equipment
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex or critical issues
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship, safety, and service quality

Workshop & Field Service Management

  • Oversee workshop operations and field service deployment
  • Ensure timely turnaround for repairs and service jobs
  • Support engineers on-site where required for major breakdowns or overhauls

Customer Support & Service Excellence

  • Work closely with customers to resolve technical issues and ensure satisfaction
  • Handle escalations professionally, including urgent vessel-down situations
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to customers

Spare Parts & Service Coordination

  • Work closely with the spares team to ensure parts availability for service jobs
  • Support identification of required parts for overhaul and maintenance work
  • Ensure alignment between service jobs and parts consumption

P&L Accountability

  • Own the P&L of the Technical & After-Sales division, including service revenue, labour costs, parts margins, and overhead management
  • Set and monitor divisional KPIs including revenue targets, gross margin, job turnaround time, and service utilisation rates
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets for the technical division, track actuals vs. budget and report variances to senior management
  • Identify opportunities to grow service revenue — including new service contracts, preventive maintenance programmes, and value-added after-sales offerings
  • Drive cost efficiency across workshop operations, field service deployment, and parts usage without compromising quality

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of service engineers and technicians
  • Build a strong hands-on and accountable team culture
  • Support recruitment and retention of technical staff

Principal & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with principals (e.g. engine makers) on technical matters, warranty, and support
  • Coordinate with overseas engineers (including China-based teams if applicable)

Requirements

  • Degree / Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification with strong hands-on marine engineering exposure.
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on familiarity in 4-stroke marine engines, power generators & marine auxiliary equipment / machinery
  • Proven leadership track record leading a sizeable team in a similar industry setting, preferably within marine engineering services and engine services, or related after-market environments.
  • Strong people leadership skills — able to motivate, coach, develop and retain talent.
  • High integrity and professionalism, trusted to represent the company.
  • Chinese language ability is an advantage (for engaging China-based engineers and stakeholders).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
