The posting

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Superintendent (Operations) for one of our global shipowner clients. The Superintendent (Operations) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day marine operational activities of assigned vessels to ensure safe, efficient and compliant voyage execution.

The ideal candidate will have strong PCTC commercial operational experience, with good knowledge of charter party requirements, port and terminal regulations and operational standards. The role works closely with vessel Masters, chartering teams, agents, and internal stakeholders to support smooth voyage execution while maintaining high standards of safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure vessels and crews comply with port/terminal rules, flag/industry regulations and charterparty (C/P) terms.
  • Advise and support Masters with pre‑berthing, pre‑loading and terminal inspections.
  • Review and approve vehicle stowage and lashing plans, ramp arrangements and cargo‑access procedures; advise on deck loading limits, vehicle heights/weights and lashing material requirements.
  • Coordinate with charterers, shippers and terminals on vehicle readiness requirements (fuel levels, batteries, steering locks, keys, immobilisation procedures, etc.) and confirm carrier/terminal acceptance.
  • Monitor vessel progress, weather, routing and fuel/bunker needs; arrange weather routing where needed and advise Master on routing choices consistent with C/P.
  • Liaise with agents to agree proforma disbursements and operational arrangements; approve reasonable voyage/owners' disbursements.
  • Track and report vessel movements and ETA/ETD to charterers and stakeholders; respond promptly to customer queries and complaints.
  • Review and investigate operational incidents, near misses or customer feedback; follow up corrective actions and report to management.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of voyage costs and timely funding of disbursements.
  • Monitor vessel performance and follow up on under‑performing ships.
  • Plan and conduct office briefings for senior officers prior to joining vessels (when assigned).
  • Support internal audits, inspections and non‑conformance follow‑ups; coordinate with SQE on safety, quality and environmental initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Certificate of Competency – Master Mariner (Class 1) with a minimum of 6 months command experience on relevant vessels; OR
  • Certificate of Competency – Chief Officer (Class 1) with a minimum of 36 months sailing experience on relevant vessels; OR
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant shore-based experience as an Operations Superintendent.
  • Experience in PCTC / Ro‑Ro commercial operations or related ship operations role.
  • Practical knowledge of stowage, lashing and Ro‑Ro cargo handling.
  • Good understanding of charterparty clauses and voyage operations.
  • Ability to review loading/discharge plans and ensure vessel readiness
  • Experience handling charterer issues, operational disputes and claims
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management (Masters, agents, charterers, terminals).

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Thank you for your understanding!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
