The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Ads Manager based in Canada.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help build and scale a self-service advertising platform that enables brands, agencies, and retailers to create, manage, and optimize digital advertising campaigns. You will take ownership of high-impact engineering initiatives that improve advertiser experiences, platform reliability, and revenue growth. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional environment, you will design scalable backend services, robust APIs, and data-driven solutions while contributing to frontend integrations when needed. You will also help advance web observability, define key performance metrics, and explore AI-powered tools for automated advertising review. This role offers significant technical ownership, opportunities to influence architectural decisions, and the chance to mentor engineers while improving software quality. Join a remote-first engineering team where innovation, autonomy, and continuous improvement are central to building products at scale.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of high-impact engineering projects, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and launch.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and well-tested backend services and APIs supporting advertising campaign creation, creative management, optimization, and reporting.
  • Develop and improve the core self-service advertising platform used by brands, agencies, and retailers to manage campaigns and achieve their business objectives.
  • Drive initiatives that improve advertiser onboarding and activation, platform health, operational efficiency, and advertising revenue growth.
  • Contribute to web observability initiatives and establish meaningful performance metrics to monitor system health, identify issues, and improve platform reliability.
  • Explore and implement AI-powered capabilities, including automated review workflows for advertising formats, to improve product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across multiple teams to translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical plans and deliverable solutions.
  • Define architectural patterns, contribute to system design documentation, and make technical decisions that support scalability, maintainability, and long-term platform evolution.
  • Work across the technology stack when needed, integrating backend services with frontend applications and ensuring consistent user experiences.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, improve monitoring and debugging practices, and maintain a strong sense of ownership over production systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct thoughtful code reviews, and promote engineering standards that strengthen code quality and team effectiveness.
  • Participate in technical recruiting, evaluate engineering talent, and contribute to improving development processes and team collaboration.
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of delivering production-ready software solutions.
  • Strong experience building and operating backend services and APIs using modern web technologies, particularly Ruby on Rails or Go.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining distributed systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Familiarity with full-stack development and the ability to integrate backend services with frontend applications.
  • Experience designing, documenting, and maintaining APIs, with the ability to make sound architectural decisions and translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, combined with a proactive approach to identifying issues and independently driving projects forward.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders across multiple teams.
  • A strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and commitment to software quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced engineering organization.
  • Previous experience in digital advertising, advertising technology, or self-service advertising platforms.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and versioning REST or GraphQL APIs for external partners or public-facing integrations.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures, and messaging systems such as Kafka or Sidekiq.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and development tools such as AWS, Terraform, and Datadog or similar observability platforms.
  • Knowledge of React, TypeScript, or other modern frontend technologies.
  • Experience integrating machine learning or AI capabilities into production applications and workflows.
  • Experience defining system architecture and technical standards for scalable, data-intensive platforms.
  • A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and enthusiasm for mentoring others and continuously improving engineering practices.
  • Competitive salary: Annual base salary ranging from CAD $168,000 to $177,500, depending on the candidate's permanent work location, experience, skills, and qualifications.
  • Equity compensation: Eligibility for a new-hire equity grant and annual equity refresh grants, subject to the applicable compensation program.
  • Remote work flexibility: A remote-first working arrangement that supports flexibility in choosing where you work, with a focus on maintaining team connection and collaboration.
  • Location flexibility within Canada: Applications are currently accepted from candidates residing in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
  • Competitive benefits package: Access to employee benefits designed to support health, financial security, and overall well-being.
  • Professional growth: Opportunities to develop technical expertise, take ownership of high-impact initiatives, and advance your engineering career.
  • Technical innovation: The opportunity to work on scalable advertising systems, platform observability, and AI-powered product capabilities.
  • Collaborative culture: A supportive, cross-functional environment that encourages autonomy, knowledge sharing, diverse perspectives, and continuous improvement.
  • Meaningful business impact: The opportunity to build technology that supports advertisers, improves campaign performance, and contributes directly to business growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
