We are seeking a professionally registered Senior Solutions Engineer (Pr.Eng) to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering capability with commercial and relationship management skills to support business growth, customer engagement, and technical solution development.

Position Summary:

The Senior Solutions Engineer is a professionally registered engineer responsible for technical leadership, engineering oversight, and the development of compliant renewable energy solutions across Solar PV and BESS projects. The role includes system design, modelling, simulation, BOQ generation, technical review, and the mentorship and professional development of junior engineers within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical excellence, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to engineering best practice, continuous improvement, and technical guidance across engineering teams.

The Senior Solutions Engineer will work closely with the internal design & engineering team, customers, suppliers, and project stakeholders to develop fit-for-purpose technical solutions in the renewable energy space.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Feasibility, Technical Design & System Analysis

Perform and contribute to feasibility studies for PV and BESS projects which are fit for purpose and are based on customer requirements, project constraints, and engineering standards.

Conduct system sizing, yield analysis and preliminary design development for new sales enquiries and project opportunities using approved engineering software tools.

Provide technical review, engineering input, and professional sign-off for new sales enquiries and technical proposals prior to customer submission.

Collaborate with the relevant internal teams to ensure all proposed solutions are technically compliant, commercially feasible, and aligned with applicable engineering standards, customer requirements and regulatory frameworks.

Apply knowledge of relevant South African standards and regulations including NRS requirements, SANS standards, grid code compliance, and regulatory requirements applicable to Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Prepare and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs) according to equipment scope and internal procurement processes.

Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project teams during project development and execution phases.

Participate in technical design reviews, troubleshooting, and engineering problem-solving activities.

Support commissioning, testing, and technical validation activities where required.

Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and engineering development support to junior engineers, graduate engineers, and technical staff.

Contribute to the development of engineering best practices, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives within the organisation.

2. Technical Engineering Engagement & Solution Development

Develop and take ownership of detailed design packs in accordance with company SOPs.

Develop technically sound and commercially viable engineering solutions.

Produce and maintain:

Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)

Layouts and General Arrangements

Cable sizing and routing calculations

Protection and control philosophies

Equipment selection and specifications

Ensure designs are practical, constructible and aligned with project constraints

Perform internal quality checks prior to submission for review.

Engage with customers, consultants, utilities, and project stakeholders alongside the sales and commercial teams to support technical solution development.

Provide technical input during customer meetings, design discussions, and project clarification sessions.

Support the sales team with engineering expertise during tendering, proposal

development and technical evaluations.

Liaise with suppliers, OEMS and technical partners regarding system performance, product suitability and technical compliance.

Provide technical support during project development, implementation, commissioning and handover where required.

3. Technical Reporting & Administration

Prepare technical reports, design documentation, simulation outputs and engineering assessments.

Maintain accurate project and proposal documentation.

Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, and applicable engineering standards.

Ensure compliance with company quality, safety and governance procedures.

Support management with technical evaluations, engineering recommendations, and strategic project initiatives.

Maintain accurate project and proposal timelines and pipeline reporting.Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Professional Engineer Registration (Pr.Eng) with ECSA is required.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering and technical sales experience.

Proven experience in engineering design, technical solution development, system modelling and technical analysis.

Experience within the Commercial & Industrial BESS and Solar PV market.

Strong understanding of engineering principles, system design methodologies, technical documentation, and project environments.

Knowledge of South African electrical, renewable, and grid code compliance standards including NRS requirements, SANS standards and applicable regulations relating to Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Proficiency in engineering modelling and simulation software.

Experience in renewable energy system analysis, yield assessments, grid compliance assessments, and technical feasibility studies is advantageous.

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.

Strong understanding of NRS requirements, SANS standards, and regulatory compliance relating to Solar PV and BESS systems.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and technical reporting tools.

Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
