IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.

The High Voltage (HV) Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in powering mission-critical, next-generation data center infrastructure by ensuring the safe, reliable operation of high-voltage substations ranging from 13.8kV to 345kV. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting advanced HV systems—including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protection and control systems, and SCADA—in a zero-downtime environment where precision and safety are paramount. Working closely with operations, engineering, and external partners, the technician serves as a trusted technical leader, executing complex switching and maintenance activities while upholding the highest standards of reliability, compliance, and operational excellence.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Technical degree, electrical apprenticeship, or equivalent military/utility experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with high-voltage power systems (13.8kV – 345kV) in data centers, substations, or utility environments preferred.
  • Licensed Journeyman/Master Electrician, NETA certification, or equivalent HV qualification preferred.
  • NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, or HV switching certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in substation operation, switching, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with protective relays, SCADA systems, and HV control schemes.
  • Experience overseeing contractors and managing HV maintenance schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of HV equipment operation, safety standards, and testing practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, and relay coordination studies.
  • Skilled in electrical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and emergency response.
  • Proficient with test equipment (primary/secondary injection kits, insulation testers, IR cameras, relay test sets).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate across multiple teams and vendors.

Other Important Requirements:

  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
  • Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs.
  • Employees working night shifts will receive a 15% premium added to their hourly rate only for hours worked during night shifts.
  • Oversee and perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HV equipment across substations.
  • Conduct switching, isolation, and grounding procedures on HV equipment in compliance with company safety standards and NFPA 70E/OSHA regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain HV transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, battery banks, and associated control systems.
  • Perform testing and inspections (e.g., insulation resistance, SF6 gas, oil sampling, DGA, breaker timing, thermography).
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor services and contractors performing HV maintenance, testing, and repairs.
  • Ensure substations are maintained in compliance with NERC, NEC, and local utility requirements.
  • Support fault isolation, root cause analysis, and incident investigations related to HV events.
  • Maintain accurate records of switching orders, maintenance logs, and substation condition reports in CMMS.
  • Assist with capacity planning, load transfers, and electrical system upgrades in partnership with engineering teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
