Johnson Controls develops technologies that help customers create safer, smarter, and more connected environments. Our Security Solutions portfolio brings together access control, video management, cameras, and cloud services to help customers protect people, facilities, and assets.

We are seeking an engineering leader to advance our video solutions, combining reliable product delivery with innovation in video management, cloud connectivity, and AI-enabled capabilities.

Your Role

The Director of Engineering - Video Solutions will lead globally distributed engineering teams responsible for developing, delivering, and sustaining commercial video solutions. This role owns engineering execution, product quality, technical direction, and team development within its scope.

You will partner with Product Management to translate customer needs and business priorities into achievable engineering plans. You will strengthen delivery predictability, improve the customer experience, and guide modernization across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-connected solutions.

This position requires a leader who combines strong technical judgment with organizational leadership and operational discipline. You will balance new capabilities with the reliability, performance, cybersecurity, and compatibility requirements of an established customer base.

  • Partner with Product Management to address customer needs and competitive gaps, balancing innovation with reliability and lifecycle requirements.
  • Establish phased modernization plans that advance video capabilities, cloud connectivity, interoperability, and AI integration.
  • Translate strategic priorities into engineering plans, resource allocations, and measurable outcomes.
  • Anticipate technical, organizational, and delivery risks and communicate investment recommendations and trade-offs to senior leadership.

Engineering Organization Leadership

  • Lead distributed engineering managers and technical teams globally, establishing clear responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain talent while strengthening engineering leadership and succession readiness.
  • Build effective collaboration across locations and with architecture, quality, cybersecurity, and platform teams.
  • Manage engineering budgets, staffing plans, capacity, and external development resources.
  • Promote customer focus, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous learning.

Product Delivery and Quality

  • Own engineering delivery against agreed scope, schedule, quality, and budget commitments.
  • Partner with Product Management and Program Management to establish achievable plans, coordinate dependencies, and resolve execution risks.
  • Work with Quality Engineering to strengthen test strategies, automation, release readiness, and prevention of recurring defects.
  • Lead the engineering response to customer escalations, including prioritization, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and timely communication.
  • Establish measures of delivery predictability, product reliability, defect escapes, and the age and resolution of customer issues.

Technical Direction and Modernization

  • Own the engineering technology roadmap for video solutions within the role’s scope, aligned with broader architecture standards.
  • Guide improvements in video recording, playback, streaming, storage, device interoperability, and system performance.
  • Prioritize technical debt and component modernization based on customer impact, security exposure, delivery constraints, and lifecycle needs.
  • Partner with cloud engineering and enterprise architecture leaders to adopt shared services and reusable capabilities.
  • Advance hybrid and cloud-connected deployments while maintaining continuity and compatibility for existing customers.
  • Collaborate with AI specialists to integrate video analytics and other AI-enabled capabilities that deliver measurable customer value.

Engineering Effectiveness and Security

  • Improve development, integration, testing, and release processes through automation and disciplined engineering practices.
  • Drive effective adoption of CI/CD, automated testing, and AI-assisted development tools.
  • Embed secure development, vulnerability remediation, and supported-component lifecycle management into engineering execution.
  • Use engineering and operational data to identify bottlenecks and verify that improvement actions deliver results.
  • Ensure performance, scalability, resilience, and supportability are addressed throughout development.

Business and Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Management, Support, Sales, and other stakeholders to understand customer workflows, deployment challenges, and market needs.
  • Align engineering investments with business objectives and available capacity.
  • Support improvements in product cost, supportability, and cost to serve through engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with technology partners and vendors to strengthen interoperability and extend solution capabilities.
  • Communicate delivery status, technical risks, and resource needs clearly to senior leadership.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
