What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Staff Thermal Systems Engineer to help shape the future of data center cooling technology. As a key member of our Data Center Thermal Solutions team, you will take ownership of the complete product lifecycle for next-generation thermal systems, from early concept development and system architecture through certification, global production launch, and long-term product sustainment.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will collaborate with global cross-functional teams to transform customer needs and emerging technologies into innovative, certified, and manufacturable solutions. You will drive critical decisions that influence product performance, quality, cost, profitability, and market success while advancing cutting-edge thermal solutions for one of the world's fastest-growing industries.

Beyond product leadership, you'll have the opportunity to mentor and develop emerging engineering talent, helping shape the next generation of innovators while influencing engineering best practices and technical excellence across the organization.

This position is based in New Freedom, PA, where onsite collaboration is essential to driving innovation and execution. Candidates should live within commuting distance or be open to relocation. Competitive relocation assistance packages are available for qualified candidates.

How you will do it

  • Lead long-range planning for thermal product families and systems; serve as thermal system architect with focus on translating emerging technologies into product platform strategies
  • Own product family architecture, including platform commonality, configurable Super BOM structures, and integration across thermal, controls, and electrical systems
  • Influence improvements to thermal system product development processes across the organization
  • Define and coordinate specifications for product families; establish thermal performance standards and design-for-manufacturing guidelines
  • May supervise a team of 4-7 engineers plus technicians on thermal system product development projects
  • Serve as the final technical escalation point for production, field, and warranty issues across the product line
  • Define the certification strategy across product families (UL, CE/PED, ASME, and regional standards) to support global market access.

What you will need Required

  • Bachelor of Science required; Master of Science preferred
  • 8+ years experience with released thermal products or systems
  • Demonstrated track record of converting research or advanced development concepts into production-released products
  • Strong cross-domain knowledge across thermal, controls, electrical systems; proficiency across multiple domains valued over deep expertise in only one
  • Ability to mentor Senior and Principal Engineers
  • Commercial HVAC industry experience, preferably with chillers

Preferred

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, OPTO, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Experience working in machine control, material handling, packaging, manufacturing, or process automation industries.
  • Familiarity with HMI development and industrial SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of embedded PC-based control platforms.
  • Experience with ERP and product lifecycle management systems.
  • Exposure to field commissioning and startup activities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
