Mit 200 Mitarbeitenden vereint es als einziges universitäres Institut der Schweiz alle mikrobiologischen Spezialdisziplinen. Das Institut für Infektionskrankheiten ist Sitz des Nationalen Referenzzentrums für Pneumokokken und des Nationalen Zentrums für Antibiotikaresistenz im Auftrag des Bundesamtes für Gesundheit. Unser Biosicherheitszentrum ist ein Kollaborationscenter der World Health Organisation (WHO). Die zunehmende Zahl antibiotikaresistenter bakterieller Infektionen erfordert neue Behandlungsstrategien. Das Labor "Raub\\-Bakterien" von Prof. Simona Huwiler betreibt Grundlagenforschung zu Raub\\-Bakterien mit dem Ziel, die mikrobielle Interaktion zwischen Räuber und Beute zu verstehen.
